Finca Cortesín, on the Costa del Sol, staged the 2023 Solheim Cup, and you can play it. Pair it with Guadalmina's sea-edge holes or a stay at SO/ Sotogrande, and tee times start from £185pp (≈ €205) (≈ $245) (≈ CA$345) (≈ AU$345) (≈ NZ$425) (≈ CHF 195).

Spain is the heart of European golf, and it rewards the traveller who knows where to look. The Costa del Sol alone strings together more fairways than almost anywhere on the continent, from the championship grandeur of Sotogrande to the cliff-top drama above Mijas. Push north and the story changes entirely: the pine-and-dune links of the Costa Brava around Pals and Girona, the unhurried fairways of Mallorca, the wide skies of Murcia and the Atlantic edge at Rota. It is a country you can return to again and again and never play the same trip twice.

We curate Spain the way a private club curates its members' calendar — matching the right course to the right week, the right hotel to your group, the right pace to your handicap. We have arranged Spain golf since 1981. Every itinerary is hand-built and hand-priced around your dates, your group and the courses you want to play.

Why play golf in Spain

  • One of the highest concentrations of quality golf in Europe, from the Costa del Sol to the Costa Brava
  • True championship pedigree at Valderrama Golf Course and La Reserva de Sotogrande, names that anchor any serious itinerary
  • Genuine variety: clifftop and parkland on the south coast, pine-and-links character around Platja de Pals and Emporda Links & Forest in the north
  • A long, mild season either side of summer — golf without the high-summer heat
  • Short transfers from the airports mean more time on the course and less in the car
  • Forty-plus years of GPH relationships with the clubs and resorts we recommend

The courses you’ll play

The Sotogrande corner is Spain's crown. Valderrama Golf Course and La Reserva de Sotogrande Golf Course are the headline acts, with La Canada Golf Club at San Roque and Finca Cortesin Golf Course at Casares completing a world-class cluster. Along the Marbella stretch you have Santa Clara Golf Club, La Quinta Golf and Country Club, Los Arqueros Golf & Country Club and El Paraiso Golf Course, with La Cala – Campo Europa and Chaparral Golf Course above Mijas. Up north, Real Club de Golf El Prat serves Barcelona, while Camiral Golf and Wellness Resort, Platja de Pals, Emporda Links & Forest and Golf d'Aro make the Costa Brava a destination in its own right. Add Pula Golf Club in Mallorca and Costa Ballena Ocean Club de Golf near Rota for breadth.

Where you’ll stay

Where you stay shapes the whole trip, so we match the base to the golf. Around Sotogrande, SO/ Sotogrande Spa & Golf Resort and the Hotel Encinar de Sotogrande put Valderrama and La Reserva on your doorstep, while Finca Cortesín Golf Club and Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol – Alcaidesa anchor the western coast. For Marbella we use Amare Beach Hotel and Hotel Lima; for the Mijas courses, Alhaurin Golf and Real Club de Golf Guadalmina. North, the Costa Brava is served by La Costa Golf & Beach Resort Hotel at Pals, Hotel Terraverda at Emporda Golf, the Aigua Blava Hotel at Begur and the Ciutat de Girona Hotel, with the Petit Palace Opera Garden Hotel for Barcelona, Pula Golf Resort in Mallorca and Occidental 7 Coronas in Murcia.

Best time to play golf in Spain

Spring and autumn are the sweet spots for golf in Spain. March to May brings green fairways, comfortable temperatures and long light — the courses around Sotogrande and Marbella are at their best — while September to November offers warm, settled days once the high-summer crowds have eased. Summer plays well too, especially earlier and later in the day, though July and August can be hot inland and busy on the coast. Winter is mild rather than warm: perfectly playable on the southern coast, quieter and gentler on the wallet, but this is not a guaranteed winter-sun destination in the way the Canaries or Morocco are. For the Costa Brava and Barcelona, lean firmly toward late spring through early autumn.

A sense of Spain

History & heritage

Spain wears its history openly. Andalucia layers Moorish and Renaissance Spain into towns like Marbella's old quarter, while the white villages above the Costa del Sol reward an afternoon's wander. North, Barcelona is a city of Gaudi and Gothic streets, and the Petit Palace Opera Garden Hotel sets you among them; Girona's walled old town, close to the Ciutat de Girona Hotel, is one of Catalonia's quiet gems. The Costa Brava villages around Begur and the Aigua Blava Hotel keep an older, fishing-port rhythm. Even a pure golf week leaves room for this — a cathedral, a plaza, a long lunch — and we build it in where you want it.

Food & wine

Eating well is part of the Spanish day, and it varies sharply by region. On the Costa del Sol, expect fresh Mediterranean fish, espetos grilled on the beach and the long, late lunch culture you settle into within a day. Catalonia, around Girona and the Costa Brava, is one of Europe's great food regions — seafood, mar-i-muntanya cooking and serious local cellars sit close to bases like La Costa Golf & Beach Resort Hotel and Aigua Blava. Mallorca and Murcia bring their own island and huerta produce. Wherever you are, the rhythm is the same: golf in the morning, a proper lunch, a slow evening. We can point you to the tables worth booking near your hotel.

Beyond the fairways

Spain gives non-golfers and rest days plenty to do. On the south coast, Marbella's marina and old town, the white villages of the Andalucian hills and easy beach days fill the hours between rounds — handy when you are based at Amare Beach Hotel or Hotel Lima. Sotogrande adds polo, sailing and a marina of its own. Up north, the Costa Brava's coves around Begur and Pals are some of the Mediterranean's prettiest, and Barcelona and Girona are full days out in themselves. Mallorca pairs golf at Pula Golf Resort with coastline and hill towns. Spas, beaches and good shopping are never far from the courses we use.

Getting around & exploring

A hire car is the natural choice for a Spanish golf trip — distances between courses are short, the roads are excellent and a car gives you the freedom to pair a morning round with an afternoon elsewhere. On the Costa del Sol, the courses from Sotogrande to Mijas string along one coastal corridor with easy transfers. On the Costa Brava, the clusters around Pals, Girona and the Emporda courses sit close together. For city-based stays in Barcelona, you may prefer transfers and taxis. We arrange car hire, private transfers or a mix to suit each leg of your itinerary, so the logistics are settled before you arrive.

Getting there

Spain is well served from the UK and Ireland. The Costa del Sol flies into Malaga, the gateway for Sotogrande, Marbella and the Mijas courses; the Costa Brava bases use Barcelona or Girona; Mallorca flies into Palma, and Murcia and the Rota area have their own regional access. Flights are not included in our packages — they are arranged separately and are ATOL-protected when we book them for you, so you are free to use airline points or your preferred carrier. Tell us your home airport and we will build the trip around the most convenient route and confirm your transfers from the terminal to your hotel.

Good to know

  • Ground-only specialists. Your package covers golf, hotels and transfers; flights are a separate, ATOL-protected add-on
  • Book the marquee tee times early. Valderrama, La Reserva and Finca Cortesin fill fast in spring and autumn — we secure these as soon as your dates are set
  • Dress codes apply at the championship clubs; we will brief you before you travel
  • Pace yourself. Many groups pair the Sotogrande courses early in the week with Marbella or Mijas rounds later
  • North and south are different trips — the Costa del Sol and the Costa Brava reward separate visits rather than one rushed itinerary
  • We have arranged Spain golf since 1981, and every detail is hand-built and hand-priced around your group
