About Santa Maria Golf Club
In a hilly location, Santa Maria is a parkland golf course. Just outside Marbella, this par 70 golf course is a straightforward out and back layout with plenty of water to grab your attention though hopefully not your ball. The course runs through two valleys with great views of the sea. After a gentle start through a valley, the holes climb up the side of the mountain before you cross under the motorway to continue your round. Four of the five par three's are on the back nine and the par three seventh is a fantastic 200-yard challenge from elevated tees.

Our take
Do not be fooled by the gentle valley start at Santa Maria, because the 2nd and 3rd ruin more cards than anything on the climb that follows.
- Buddy tripsA par 70 with five par threes means the irons and the short game settle the money, and the route through two valleys, ducking under the motorway midway, gives the round plenty to talk about afterwards.
- Higher handicapsPlenty of water sits ready for a nervous swing, and once the holes start up the mountainside you will be glad of a buggy. Survive the 2nd and 3rd with your ball and the score usually holds.
- Serious golfersFive par threes on a par 70 card shifts the weight onto iron play, and with water threaded through an out-and-back layout you find out fast whether your distance control is honest.

The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 7 km/h, gusting to 30. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
