What golfers say about Spain
4.997 reviewsIf you are going to play golf, there's nothing better than playing in the sunshine so my wife and I had an item on our bucket list to take a month driving around the Iberian peninsula playing golf, staying at good hotels and eating well! …
We recently used Golf planet Holidays for our annual golf trip to Spain, I can honestly say that the service provided was second to none, an absolutely first class experience.. well done the team at Golf planet holidays..
About Chaparral Golf Course
Chaparral golf course is a parkland design in the middle of a Mediterranean forest. The 18-hole golf course was designed by Pepe Gancedo, known as the 'Picasso of Golf'. The course takes full advantage of the natural landscape with the sea on one side and mountains on the other. Known in the region for the quality of the greens, Chaparral is the only course on the Costa del Sol with six par five's, six par four's and six par three's. Combined with the panoramic views from most holes, this is one to enjoy.
- Buggies available
- Clubhouse - restaurant and bar
- Just 20 minutes from Marbella
Our take
Six par threes, six par fours and six par fives make Chaparral unique on the Costa del Sol, and Gancedo has threaded the lot through pine forest with the sea on one side and mountains on the other.
- Serious golfersThe six-six-six card never lets you settle. Gancedo keeps changing the question hole by hole, and the 9th and 11th are where most good scores come unstuck, so plot those two before you tee off.
- Higher handicapsSix par threes mean more genuine par chances on the card. The catch is the hill, well over 200 metres of climb across the round, so take a buggy and save your legs for those excellent greens.
- Buddy tripsIdeal matchplay territory. Nobody's handicap quite fits a course with six par fives, the forest keeps things cool, and half a dozen water hazards are on hand to settle who buys the first round.
Tell us who’s coming and how you like to play, and we’ll shape the right trip around you.
What you are actually facing
The walk. Hilly — we would take a buggy. 218 metres of climb over eighteen holes.
The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 9 km/h, gusting to 36. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 6 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Pepe Gancedo.
The holes that will cost you. The 9th, the 11th and the 13th. The 9th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
Hole by hole — how we would play it
