Our take

Of La Cala's three courses, Europa is the one to start on, wider off the tee and kinder on the greens, though the Ojen river touches eight holes and there is more climb out there than you might expect.

Higher handicapsStart your La Cala golf here. The fairways forgive a loose drive and the greens accept a running approach, but respect the Ojen river; it touches eight holes and swallows more balls than the rough ever will.
SocietiesThe obvious opener for a mixed ability group, with room off the tee for every standard. Book buggies all the same; it is hillier than its friendly reputation, and the 7th and 15th still catch the confident.
CouplesEnjoyable rather than punishing, with a genuinely natural feel because no trees were removed to build it. A relaxed buggy round followed by lunch at the resort suits a golfing couple well.
