About Mijas Golf
Mijas Golf has two 18-hole golf courses, Los Lagos and Los Olivos. Originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior, the courses have been updated this century, remaining true to the original layout. Los Olivos, opened in 1984 lives up to its name with plenty of trees lining the narrow fairways and fewer water hazards in your way before reaching the elevated greens. Los Lagos, opened in 1976, is more target orientated as you negotiate the nine lakes, acting as obstacles on 11 of the 18 holes, and plenty of bunkers. We recommend Los Olivos for mid to high handicappers and Los Lagos for low handicappers.

Our take
Two contrasting Robert Trent Jones layouts share one site at Mijas, target golf around the lakes on Los Lagos and tree-lined precision on Los Olivos.
- Buddy tripsThirty-six holes without moving the car settles the itinerary argument. Los Lagos rewards the brave line over water, Los Olivos punishes a crooked driver, and the group will spend dinner arguing over which is the harder course.
- Serious golfersLos Lagos is true target golf with nine lakes to negotiate, while Los Olivos narrows everything down to greens set above the fairway. Around here, the 13th and the 15th are the holes that quietly finish most good cards.
- Higher handicapsChoose your poison: Los Olivos has fewer water hazards but narrow, tree-lined fairways, while Los Lagos asks you to carry its nine lakes instead. There is enough climbing across the round that most groups are glad of a buggy in summer.
