About Hacienda Riquelme Golf
Hacienda Riquelme Golf is one of four Nicklaus Design courses in the Murcia region. This par 72 course is built to Championship standard with an impressive 19th century colonial style Hacienda clubhouse. Spectacular to look at, the links style golf course is a pleasure to play for golfers of all standards. But don't relax as shots can be difficult on the undulating fairways, through the wild grass and olive trees and, of course, large water hazards.
Our take
Hacienda Riquelme, one of four Nicklaus Design courses in the Murcia region, plays links style golf around a 19th century hacienda, though the wild grass and the water still collect their share of balls.
- Higher handicapsA playable links test. It walks dead flat, the trouble is visible from the tee, and although the humps in the fairways throw up awkward stances, a steady game keeps the same ball all round.
- Serious golfersResist the urge to freewheel. The undulating fairways feed loose drives into wild grass and olive trees, and water turns up on seven occasions, so the course quietly punishes anyone treating it as a warm up.
- CouplesA good choice when one of you plays more golf than the other. The course is friendly without being dull, and the colonial hacienda clubhouse is somewhere you will actually want to sit for an hour afterwards.
