About Son Gual Golf Course
Without doubt, Son Gual is one of the best courses in Mallorca. The owner set out to ensure that members and visitors play the best course on the island and in the best condition. The greens are like billiard tables and the fabulous fairways are broken up with extensive bunkers, lakes, waterfalls and even vineyards. There are a number of memorable holes, the Par-3 5th and the nerve-jangling 18th being the pick. The practice facilities and clubhouse are first class. Eight miles from Palma.
Our take
The conditioning at Son Gual is the standout feature, and the design backs it up with lakes, vineyards and a closing hole that jangles the nerves.
- Serious golfersGreens like billiard tables and proper practice facilities, so arrive early. Fifteen stretches of water shape the round, and the 6th and that nerve tester of an 18th decide most scores.
- Higher handicapsHonestly, it will test you: lakes, waterfalls and extensive bunkering everywhere, plus 170 metres of climb, so take the buggy. Play from the forward tees and enjoy the conditioning rather than chase a score.
- Buddy tripsSave something for the last: the 18th has wrecked plenty of fourballs with money riding on it, and the clubhouse afterwards is the right place to settle up.

The walk. Hilly — we would take a buggy. 171 metres of climb over eighteen holes.
The wind. The wind is usually north-easterly, averaging 9 km/h, gusting to 36. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
