About Flamingos & Alferini Golf Courses
Flamingos is the original golf course at the luxury Anantara Villa Padierna Palace Resort. Outside Benahavis near Marbella, Flamingos is known for its narrow fairways and large greens. Put your thinking cap on as this is not a hit and hope course. The Arroyo del Taraje gully dissects the course and water comes into play on several of the attractive holes. The course has hosted the European Seniors Tour and the Women's Spanish Open.
The Alferini course is a tough challenge with tight fairways and immaculate greens. Play here once during your stay and then feel better on Flamingos if you're a mid-handicapper. Fantastic views and very peaceful...a joy!

Our take
The European Seniors Tour and the Women's Spanish Open both came to Flamingos, and its narrow fairways into big greens explain the invitation.
- Serious golfersPosition off the tee is everything on fairways this narrow, and the Arroyo del Taraje gully cuts across the round to punish the lazy line. The 6th and the 11th are where the thinking caps earn their keep.
- Higher handicapsThe big greens give you something back once you find the short grass, but finding it is the hard part. Take a buggy, because the climb from the first tee to the last green is no joke.
- CouplesStaying at the Anantara Villa Padierna Palace with the original course outside the door makes a genuinely good couples trip, with Alferini next to it when you want a second course.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Hilly — we would take a buggy. 271 metres of climb over eighteen holes.
The wind. The wind is usually northerly, averaging 8 km/h. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 7 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Antonio García Garrido (Flamingos); Alferini by the Villa Padierna design team.
The holes that will cost you. The 11th, the 6th and the 15th. The 14th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
