What golfers say about Spain
4.997 reviewsIf you are going to play golf, there's nothing better than playing in the sunshine so my wife and I had an item on our bucket list to take a month driving around the Iberian peninsula playing golf, staying at good hotels and eating well! …
We recently used Golf planet Holidays for our annual golf trip to Spain, I can honestly say that the service provided was second to none, an absolutely first class experience.. well done the team at Golf planet holidays..
About Santa Clara Golf Club
Santa Clara Golf Club presents a challenging and enjoyable golf course. The layout, designed by Enrique Canales Busquets, is straightforward with wide fairways and open greens. It's very natural looking following the line of modern courses which pay great attention to the surrounding environment. There's a great welcome at the pretty clubhouse. All in all, a great day out.
- Buggies
- Clubhouse - Restaurant
- Good practice facilities
- Play alongside Los Arqueros and Marbella Golf and Country Club
Our take
Santa Clara is the Costa del Sol scoring round: wide fairways, open greens and barely a breath of wind, though there is enough climb in it that most groups take a buggy.
- Serious golfersWith the wind rarely above a whisper and the layout straightforward, this is a card-repair day more than an examination; the 10th and the 14th are the two holes that ask you a real question.
- Higher handicapsWide fairways and open greens make this as friendly as Marbella golf gets, but there is over 200 metres of climb in the round, so take the buggy and save your legs.
- SocietiesAn easy course to run a society day on, with a warm welcome at the pretty clubhouse, decent practice facilities beforehand and a restaurant for the prize-giving afterwards.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Hilly — we would take a buggy. 206 metres of climb over eighteen holes.
The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 7 km/h, gusting to 30. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 12 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Enrique Canales Busquets.
The holes that will cost you. The 14th, the 10th and the 7th. The 8th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
Hole by hole — how we would play it
