About El Valle Golf
Nicklaus Design has been at work again at El Valle Golf, Murcia. Less than 20 minutes from Murcia Airport the course has been carved out of the surrounding desert landscape. The enticing greens are protected by imposing bunkers, there are 115 in all around the course. Two large lakes dominate five of the holes. Like all the courses in this area, the challenge is not in the length but in navigating the fairways and steering your way clear of the hazards

Our take
Carved out of the desert twenty minutes from Murcia airport, El Valle shows a course does not need length when 115 bunkers and two big lakes are doing the defending.
- Serious golfersLeave the driver in the bag more often than pride wants. The par 71 length is modest, but the bunkers sit precisely on the greedy line and two lakes dominate five holes outright, so think a shot ahead all day.
- Higher handicapsYour bunker play decides the day. Avoid the sand and this flat desert course is entirely manageable, with greens in comfortable reach, but a nervous splash shot will get found out repeatedly across 115 traps.
- Buddy tripsTwenty minutes from Murcia airport, so it earns the arrival or fly home slot. The desert setting is a genuine change from the region's parkland, and shorter hitters stay in the contest here.
