The Algarve is where most first ladies’ golf groups end up, and it earns it. The flight is short. The transfers are quick, the courses are forgiving enough that a mid-to-high handicapper has a good day rather than a long one, English is spoken everywhere, and the clubs are used to mixed groups. Women's golf breaks on the Costa del Sol, Spain
Spain works well when the group wants a bit more beach and town life alongside the golf. The Costa del Sol and the stretch down towards Cadiz give you long runs of coast, plenty of restaurants within a taxi ride, and resorts that are comfortable hosting groups who play three rounds and sunbathe the other four days.
The value pick here is Montecastillo Resort Hotel near Jerez, a Jack Nicklaus course attached to a hotel with a proper spa and a relaxed feel. Hotel Valle del Este in Vera is the quiet one, set back from the busier resorts with a desert-style course and a spa that makes a good non-golf day. If the group wants the full beach-and-spa version, Barcelo Costa Ballena Golf & Spa sits right by a wide sandy beach with a big thalassotherapy spa, which tends to win over the members of the party who are lukewarm on golf. Given the choice between the three, we’d book Montecastillo first; the golf is the strongest and Jerez itself makes a very good day off. Ladies' golf holidays in Belek, Turkey
Belek is the one to consider when the group wants the all-inclusive, everything-on-site version of a golf trip. The resorts are large, the spas are serious, and the buffets and pools mean the non-golfers genuinely don’t need to leave. It is a longer flight than Spain or Portugal, and the transfer from Antalya adds a bit more on top, but the courses are excellent and the value, once you factor in what’s included at the hotel, is hard to argue with.
Our pick for a ladies’ group is Voyage Belek Golf and Spa, which is as much a spa-and-pool resort as a golf one and tends to keep everyone happy whatever their handicap. Sueno Golf Hotel is the value choice with two of its own courses on the doorstep, so morning rounds are an easy stroll rather than a coach trip. If you want the calmer, more grown-up end of Belek, Gloria Verde is the quieter sister resort with a strong spa and easy access to the Gloria courses.
