GROUND-ONLY TAILOR-MADE GOLF SINCE 1981

Spain's only true links, with Africa on the horizon.

Costa Del Sol golf holidays

Play the Alcaidesa Links at Fairmont La Hacienda, where the fairways roll down toward Gibraltar and the African coast, then test yourself on Finca Cortesín, the Solheim Cup course. Thirty courses inside an hour, from Guadalmina's old pines to the Sotogrande hills, and a December tee time that still wears shirtsleeves.

The Costa del Sol earned its nickname the Costa del Golf for good reason: nowhere in Europe packs so many championship courses into so short a drive. From the manicured fairways above Marbella to the rolling cork-oak country around Sotogrande, this stretch of Andalucía offers more variety in a week than most regions manage in a fortnight. You can play a Ryder Cup venue in the morning and a friendly members' track in the afternoon, then be back at your hotel for a long Mediterranean lunch.

What sets a Costa del Sol trip apart is the density and the contrast — links-influenced layouts, mountain courses with sea views, and parkland classics, all within easy reach of Málaga. We hand-pick the courses and the bases that suit your group, balancing tee times, transfers and the pace you actually want to play at.

We have arranged Costa del Sol golf since 1981. Every itinerary is hand-built and hand-priced around your dates, your group and the courses you want to play.

Why play golf in Costa Del Sol

  • The greatest concentration of championship golf in continental Europe, with Valderrama Golf Course and La Reserva de Sotogrande anchoring the Sotogrande end
  • Genuine variety in a small radius: Finca Cortesín, Los Naranjos, La Quinta and Atalaya all within an easy drive of Marbella
  • A spread of styles — mountain, parkland and resort layouts — so a mixed-ability group can find courses to suit every player
  • Resort hubs like La Cala Resort (Campo Europa, Asia and America) and Mijas Golf that put multiple courses on one doorstep
  • Reliable Andalucían weather, well-drained courses and a buggy-friendly culture that keeps play comfortable
  • Over four decades of relationships with the region's clubs and hotels, so we know which combinations actually work together

The courses you’ll play

The Sotogrande triangle is the headline. Valderrama Golf Course, host of the 1997 Ryder Cup, is the most storied course in continental Europe; nearby La Reserva de Sotogrande and the well-regarded members' course La Canada Golf Club, San Roque round out a world-class cluster. West towards Casares, Finca Cortesín Golf Course is a modern championship layout of real pedigree.

Around Marbella the choice is deep: Los Naranjos Golf Club, Santa Maria Golf Club, Santa Clara Golf Club, La Quinta Golf and Country Club, Los Arqueros, El Paraiso, Marbella Golf & Country Club and Atalaya Golf & Country Club. Further east, La Cala Resort offers three full courses — Campo Europa, Campo Asia and Campo America — alongside Mijas Golf, Santana Golf, Chaparral, Alhaurin Golf and Golf Torrequebrada. We build the rotation around your priorities.

Where you’ll stay

Where you base yourself shapes the whole trip. For golfers focused on the Sotogrande courses, SO/ Sotogrande Spa & Golf Resort, Hotel Encinar de Sotogrande and the Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol at Alcaidesa sit close to the western clubs, while Finca Cortesín Hotel at Casares is the address for those wanting quiet luxury.

Around Marbella and Puerto Banús, options range from beachfront stays like Amare Beach Hotel Marbella, Hotel Lima Marbella and Hard Rock Hotel Marbella to golf resorts such as The Westin La Quinta Golf Resort & Spa and La Quinta Golf and Country Club. Towards Mijas and Fuengirola, La Cala Resort Hotel, La Zambra, Alhaurin Golf, Atalaya Golf & Country Club and Barceló Occidental Fuengirola put you near the eastern courses. We match the base to your golf.

Best time to play golf in Costa Del Sol

Spring and autumn are the sweet spots on the Costa del Sol. From March to May the courses are at their greenest, the days are warm without being hot, and conditions are ideal for serious golf — this is peak season, so we book tee times and hotels well ahead. September into November brings the same comfortable warmth as the summer crowds thin, making it many golfers' favourite window.

High summer (June to August) is hot and busy; early tee times and buggies make it perfectly playable, but the heat is best suited to those who don't mind it. Winters are mild but noticeably cooler and quieter than the warmth marketing might suggest — pleasant for a relaxed round, though this is not a guaranteed winter-sun destination. We'll steer you to the dates that match your group.

A sense of Costa Del Sol

History & heritage

Andalucía is the cultural heart of southern Spain, and the Costa del Sol sits within easy reach of its great cities. Behind the coastal resorts lie whitewashed pueblos blancos in the hills, Moorish history written into the architecture, and a way of life built around long lunches, evening paseos and unhurried hospitality.

Marbella's old town, with its orange-tree square and tangle of lanes, is a world away from the marina glamour of nearby Puerto Banús. Estepona and Mijas keep their Andalucían character intact, all narrow streets and flowered balconies. It's a region where centuries of Spanish, Moorish and Mediterranean influence meet the coast — and where the golf is woven into a genuinely civilised pace of living.

Food & wine

Eating on the Costa del Sol is one of the trip's quiet pleasures. The Málaga coast lives on fresh seafood — espetos de sardinas grilled over open fires on the beach (chiringuito) are the local ritual — alongside fried fish, prawns from the bay and the cold tomato soups, gazpacho and salmorejo, that suit the Andalucían climate.

Inland the cooking turns heartier: jamón, slow-cooked stews and the tapas culture that makes a long lunch easy to fall into. Málaga has its own sweet wines, and the region's bodegas and beachfront restaurants give you everything from a casual seaside plate to a polished dinner near the marina. After a morning on the fairways, the food is reason enough to take your time over the rest of the day.

Beyond the fairways

There is plenty to fill the non-golf hours. Marbella and Puerto Banús offer marina strolls, boutiques and beach clubs; Estepona and Mijas reward a slower wander through whitewashed streets; and the coast's beaches and spas are made for an afternoon's recovery between rounds.

Many of the hotels we use, such as Hotel Exe Estepona Thalasso & Spa, lean into wellness, so a spa day is an easy addition. Further afield, the great Andalucían cities — and the dramatic mountain villages of the hinterland — make memorable day trips for groups wanting more than fairways. We can fold a rest day, a partner programme or a sightseeing excursion into any itinerary.

Getting around & exploring

A hire car is the natural choice on the Costa del Sol. The coastal road and the AP-7 motorway link the whole stretch from Sotogrande to Fuengirola, and most courses sit a short, well-signposted drive apart — handy when you're playing a different club each day.

For groups who'd rather not drive, we can arrange private transfers and a driver for the duration, so you arrive at each tee relaxed and leave the logistics to us. Distances are modest: the Marbella courses cluster tightly, while the Sotogrande clubs are an easy run to the west. We plan the daily routing around your tee times so no one is rushing across the coast before an early start.

Getting there

Málaga Airport (AGP) is the gateway, with frequent connections from across the UK and Europe and quick onward access to the whole coast — Marbella is around 40 minutes away, Sotogrande a little further west. Gibraltar Airport is an alternative for the western end of the coast.

Flights are not included in our packages: we are a ground-only specialist, and flights can be arranged separately as an ATOL-protected add-on if you'd like us to handle them. Otherwise you're free to book the routing and airline that suit you. Whichever way you arrive, we'll have your transfers and tee times lined up so the golf begins the moment you land.

Good to know

  • We are ground-only specialists: your trip covers golf, hotels and transfers, with flights available separately as an ATOL-protected add-on
  • Spring and autumn are peak — book early for the best tee times at Valderrama and Finca Cortesín
  • Buggies are widely available and recommended in the warmer months, particularly on the mountain courses
  • Many courses have dress codes; soft spikes are standard and a collared shirt is expected
  • The coast spans Sotogrande to Fuengirola, so we base you to minimise daily driving around your chosen courses
  • Every itinerary is hand-built and hand-priced; tell us your group, dates and the courses you want, and we'll do the rest
