What golfers say about Spain
4.997 reviewsIf you are going to play golf, there's nothing better than playing in the sunshine so my wife and I had an item on our bucket list to take a month driving around the Iberian peninsula playing golf, staying at good hotels and eating well! …
We recently used Golf planet Holidays for our annual golf trip to Spain, I can honestly say that the service provided was second to none, an absolutely first class experience.. well done the team at Golf planet holidays..
About Finca Cortesín Golf Club
Designed by Cabell B. Robinson and opened in 2007, Finca Cortesín Golf Club is widely regarded as one of the finest courses in continental Europe. The demanding par-72 layout stretches 6,802 metres from the back tees and features more than 100 meticulously sculpted bunkers set among olive groves between Sotogrande and Marbella. Robinson's routing flows naturally through the estate's gently undulating landscape, rewarding strategic play across five tee positions. The course has hosted the Volvo World Match Play Championship and is recognised among the world's top 100 courses.
Our take
Few courses in Spain arrive with a bigger reputation than Finca Cortesín, and for once the course lives up to it.
- Serious golfersIt stretches to 6,802 metres off the back tees with more than 100 sculpted bunkers waiting among the olive groves. The 11th tests the middle of your round and the 18th makes you earn whatever score you are guarding.
- Higher handicapsFive tee positions keep it playable, but be honest when you choose. There is 160 metres of climb over the round, so take the buggy and save your legs for the bunker escapes.
- CouplesThe estate between Sotogrande and Marbella is as polished off the course as on it. This is a special occasion round rather than an everyday one, and it feels like it from the first tee.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Moderate. 160 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually easterly, averaging 11 km/h, gusting to 33. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 11 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Cabell B. Robinson.
The holes that will cost you. The 11th, the 18th and the 5th. The 18th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
Hole by hole — how we would play it
Terrain and prevailing-weather data, read hole by hole. It is our own assessment of how the course plays, not an official course or slope rating.
The course at a glance
The downhill par-3 10th plays to a green shaped like a Spanish guitar; the 13th runs between native acebuche wild olives with water all down the left.
Host of the 2023 Solheim Cup and the Volvo World Match Play Championship (2009-2012)
