Every course below is one an ordinary holiday golfer can actually tee it up on — including four Ryder Cup venues.

What a slope rating actually tells you
Slope measures difficulty for the average golfer, not the scratch player. The USGA sets 113 as the standard; anything from the mid-120s up is a genuine championship test where course management matters more than length. If you play off a mid-to-high handicap, a slope of 128 like the Dukes will feel a couple of shots harder than your home track. What is the hardest golf course you can play on holiday?
Of the 296 courses we hold slope ratings for, the Dukes at St Andrews is the hardest at a slope of 128, just ahead of Anahita in Mauritius (127) and a cluster of championship courses at 125–126.
Is a slope rating of 125 hard?
Yes. The USGA sets 113 as the standard difficulty; a slope in the mid-120s is a genuine championship test where accuracy and course management matter as much as distance. Most Ryder Cup and major venues sit in the 124–130 range.
Can amateur golfers really play these championship courses?
Almost all of them, yes. Ryder Cup hosts such as Golf National, Gleneagles and The K Club take visitor bookings, and we arrange the tee times, transfers and stay as part of a package. A few venues ask for a handicap certificate, which we handle for you.
