A Buddies’ Golf Getaway to Canary Islands

Canary Islands

You know how it goes — the group chat lights up in October, everyone swears they’re in, and then the planning falls to one poor soul who ends up chasing deposits and refereeing room arguments. A buddies’ golf trip to the Canary Islands fixes the hardest part of that: guaranteed winter sun, a four-hour hop from the UK, and courses good enough to settle the inevitable order-of-merit. We handle the rest so the only thing left on the group chat is the trash talk.

Why the Canaries win the winter group-trip argument

When the lads want guaranteed sun in January without a long-haul slog, nowhere in Europe touches the Canaries. Sitting off the coast of Morocco, the islands stay in the low twenties right through the British winter, so you’re playing in a polo shirt while everyone back home is scraping the windscreen. Four hours’ flight, no jet lag, same time zone — you can land, check in and still make a twilight nine on the first afternoon.

It’s also the rare destination that keeps a whole group happy. The golf is genuinely good, the resorts are walkable to bars and restaurants, and the islands each have their own character — Tenerife and Gran Canaria for buzz and convenience, Fuerteventura and La Gomera for something quieter when the group wants a calmer second leg.

The resorts and courses we'd put your group on

For most buddies’ trips we start on Tenerife at Buenavista Golf — a Seve Ballesteros design pinned between the Teno mountains and the Atlantic, with holes that play right along the cliff edge. It’s a proper test that rewards a few quid on the card, and the on-site hotel keeps the group together. On Gran Canaria, Lopesan Costa Meloneras is the easy crowd-pleaser: a big, lively resort in Meloneras with golf on the doorstep and the Maspalomas bars and dunes a short stroll away for the evenings.

Want to mix it up? Sheraton Fuerteventura Beach, Golf & Spa sits right on its own course beside the sea — relaxed, spacious and ideal if half the group fancies a beach day between rounds. And for a memorable last leg, Hotel Jardín Tecina on La Gomera is a clifftop hideaway with the dramatic Tecina Golf below it — a quick ferry from Tenerife and the kind of place that turns a good trip into a story you’ll retell for years.

Where our specialists would stay in Canary Islands

How we make it effortless for the organiser

The thankless admin is exactly what we take off your hands. We block-book your tee times so the whole group goes out in consecutive fourballs rather than scattered across the morning, arrange buggies up front, and sort the room mix — twins, the odd single, whatever the party needs — without you having to play hotel receptionist.

Private transfers meet you at the airport so nobody’s herding eight blokes onto a public bus, and because we deal with these resorts directly we secure group rates and keep the price discreet on the card. One organiser, one point of contact, one invoice — you tell us the dates and the handicaps, we build the trip around them.

Booking it — and the protection that comes with it

When you’re collecting deposits off a dozen mates, peace of mind matters. Golf Planet Holidays is ATOL-protected, so any trip that includes flights is financially secured — if you’re booking the lot through us, the group’s money is safe. We arrange the ground side as tailor-made packages and add flights as an option, so you can either let us handle everything or just take the golf, hotel and transfers.

Tell us your rough dates, group size and the standard of golf you’re after, and one of our specialists will put together an itinerary you can share straight into the group chat. No call centre, no pressure — just a plan that works, ready before someone in the WhatsApp pulls out.

Frequently asked questions

When's the best time to take a buddies' trip to the Canaries?

November through March is the sweet spot — you get reliable 20-23°C sun and dry days while the UK is cold and waterlogged. It’s the islands’ peak golf season, so tee times and rooms for a group book up fast; six to ten weeks ahead is sensible.

How big a group can you take, and can we get single rooms and buggies?

There’s no real ceiling — we arrange everything from a fourball to a full society. We’ll secure twins and singles to suit the party (no forced sharing), block-book consecutive tee times so you all go off together, and pre-book buggies for the whole group.

How practical are the flights and transfers?

It’s about a four-hour flight from most UK airports with no time difference. Tenerife and Gran Canaria have excellent connections, and we lay on private group transfers — typically 20-40 minutes from the airport to your resort, so nobody’s left wrangling taxis.

What's included in the package?

Your tailor-made package covers hotel, green fees and private transfers as standard, with buggies and any extra rounds added to suit. Flights are an optional add-on — book them through us and the trip is ATOL-protected; we’ll lay it all out clearly before anyone pays a penny.
