About Buenavista Golf
Designed by Severiano Ballesteros and opened in 2003, Buenavista Golf occupies dramatic cliffside terrain on the north-west tip of Tenerife, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The par-72 layout stretches 6,019 metres and features at least 12 holes with either ocean or mountain backdrops, making it arguably the most scenically positioned course in the Canary Islands. A central lake divided by waterfalls adds a striking visual element near the clubhouse, while the terrain demands a variety of shot shapes across the undulating clifftop holes. The course sits directly adjacent to the Meliá Hacienda del Conde hotel.
Our take
The scenery gets the headlines at Buenavista, with twelve holes framed by the Atlantic or the mountains, but it is the sea wind that ends up writing most scorecards.
Serious golfersSeve asks for flight control more than raw length here; the breeze off the Atlantic rarely rests, so take an extra club, keep the ball under it and respect the 9th and 10th.
Higher handicapsBe honest about your game: cliffside drops, the water around the clubhouse lake and a stiff sea wind will cost a 24-handicapper a sleeve or three, and the climbs make a buggy the sensible call.
CouplesOne plays, both enjoy the day: the drive out to Tenerife's north-west tip is part of the occasion, and ocean or mountain backdrops frame twelve of the eighteen holes.
Tell us who’s coming and how you like to play, and we’ll shape the right trip around you.
The walk. Hilly — we would take a buggy. 204 metres of climb over eighteen holes.
The wind. The wind is usually north-easterly, averaging 19 km/h, gusting to 40. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. Water is very much in play across this course. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Severiano Ballesteros.
The holes that will cost you. The 10th, the 9th and the 1st. The 10th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
