About Arcachon Golf Club
A three-round tour of Cabot Bordeaux (formerly Medoc Golf) Gujan Mestras and Arcachon ensures you get a top-quality mix of golf. Arcachon is a classic forest layout with a straightforward first nine, then you need to change your style to cope with the next eight holes, particularly if the water hazards get in the way.
Dating from the late 19th-century, the club actually became an 18 hole course some 80 years later. It's a friendly club and a nice course. Leave time for lunch at the panoramic restaurant.

Our take
Friendly, forested and dating from the late nineteenth century, Arcachon plays a good deal trickier than its easy-going reputation, especially once the water starts crowding in mid-round.
- Serious golfersA course of two characters, with a plain start that turns awkward once the water arrives. Do not switch off early though: the 3rd and 7th quietly ruin more cards than anything on the run home.
- Higher handicapsThere's real rise and fall across the round, 122 metres of climb in total, enough that some groups will want a buggy, and water lurks everywhere. A friendly club though, and nobody will rush you round.
- Buddy tripsSlot it into the classic three-round Bordeaux tour alongside Cabot Bordeaux and Gujan Mestras. It is the characterful old-timer of the trio, and the welcome matches the billing.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Moderate. 122 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually westerly, averaging 13 km/h, gusting to 57. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. Water is very much in play across this course. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Cecil Blandford.
The holes that will cost you. The 3rd, the 7th and the 9th. The 3rd is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
