About Hossegor Golf Club
Hossegor is a beautiful and testing golf course north of Biarritz. It's a classic Harry Colt design from the 1920s. With lush, tree-lined fairways and some very tight holes, it requires concentration from the start, or a lot of golf balls. It's a must on your golf holiday itinerary.
Don’t get disheartened if your scorecard looks poor after the first few holes, it will be the same for everyone and the course does get wider. Short hitters from the tee could win the day as they will keep out of danger. The greens, thankfully, are true and the bunkers are very fair.
It’s a flat course and no buggies are allowed. Hossegor is a traditional members' club but welcomes our clients. It's half an hour from Biarritz. If you have time take the coastal road.

Our take
The first few holes at Hossegor will bruise every card in the group; this tight, tree-lined 1920s classic only relents once you have survived the 1st and 4th.
- Serious golfersFlat, barely 30 metres of climb, and sheltered from the wind by the pines, so the whole examination is accuracy. Drive it straight through the opening stretch and the course gradually gives you room to attack.
- Higher handicapsPack more golf balls than pride. The tight early holes punish anything crooked and the 1st and 4th are the worst of them, but stay patient because the fairways genuinely widen as the round goes on.
- Buddy tripsThat brutal start levels the group whatever the handicaps, which makes it a good first-morning pick; nobody runs away with the money until the course loosens its grip after the opening holes.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 31 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually westerly, averaging 10 km/h, gusting to 54. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 7 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
