ABOUT THE GOLF COURSES

Medoc Golf Club near Bordeaux in south-west France is unique in Europe. It’s the only golf club where both courses rate among the Top 100 in mainland Europe. To complete the package there is a fine hotel on site and the resort is surrounded by world-class vineyards and chateaux.

Les Chateaux comes in at Number 19 and is certainly the more difficult of the two. You have to weave your way around the big fairways as the challenges are plenty including huge bunkers, gorse and even a little water along the way. Designed by Bill Coore,  Medoc Les Chateaux is a quality golf course from start to finish.  Les Chateaux measures up to 7200 yards so has all the ingredients for even the biggest of hitters. Choose your tees wisely.

Les Vignes is the prettier of the two courses and is comes in at Number 75 in Europe.  It has a tight par of 71 against 6900 yards and offers some stunning holes, mostly lined by tall pines. The green-keeping standard is superb and you’ll be well-pleased with your choice.

Medoc Golf Club, like an increasing number of leading courses, is deliberately cutting down its use of water and pesticides. This sometimes leads to a dry appearance by the end of summer. If you fancy things a bit more plush and lush, you can play from October through to late July and the appearance will be more to your liking.
