Play and stay at Lacanau Golf Club, one of our favourite finds in the Bordeaux region.    The golf course is carved out of a pine forest with the Atlantic Ocean roaring away in the distance. It’s straightforward but demanding and very, very pretty.

Measuring 6500 yards off the back with a tough par of 72, the par threes are generally the toughest to keep a bogey away and the par fives are where you can grab a shot back. The par fours are generally quite tight or require a proper two shot strategy instead of just bashing your driver and hoping for the best.

The maintenance of Lacanau is now very good and we recommend at least one round here if you’re staying in Bordeaux or westwards.

Talking of staying, we recommend the four-star Hotel du Golf nestling by the 18th green.
