About Margaux Golf Club
Play and stay at Margaux Golf Club near Bordeaux. A recent and much-anticipated creation, Margaux golf course is now reaching its potential with good greenkeeping and thoughtful fairway shaping. At 6800 yards off the tips and a par 71, it's long enough for everyone and the location is rather special - next to the vineyards, adjacent to superb Relais de Margaux resort hotel and overlooking the River Gironde. There are some super holes with water hazards and the course demands a good mix of shot-making skills.

Our take
Water shapes almost everything at Margaux, a young course between the vineyards and the Gironde.
- Serious golfersAt 6,800 yards off the tips with thirteen separate water hazards, it demands a plan from the first tee, which is exactly where cards start to leak. The 6th is the other hole that does the damage.
- Higher handicapsEight metres of climb over the whole round makes for an easy, flat walk, but pack extra balls. The water finds anything loose, and there is a lot of it.
- CouplesStaying at the Relais de Margaux next door makes for a simple play-and-stay: out of the hotel and onto the tee, vineyards either side, the Gironde beyond.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 8 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually westerly, averaging 11 km/h, gusting to 42. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 13 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Olivier Dongradi.
The holes that will cost you. The 6th, the 1st and the 11th. The 6th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
