Winter golf breaks in Tenerife: January tee times that actually happen

There is a particular misery to a UK clubhouse in January: the course shut by 3pm, the mats out, your swing dissolving by March. Four and a half hours south, on Tenerife’s Costa Adeje, golfers are taking dew-sweeper tee times in 21C and arguing over lunch on a terrace. This is the case for doing something about it, with real prices attached.

Why winter golf breaks in Tenerife actually deliver

From November to March, a UK golf course is a part-time thing. Temporary greens, fairway mats, frost sheets, a 9am tee time pushed to noon, and that is on the days it opens at all. Tenerife sits at 28 degrees north, level with the Sahara, and the Atlantic around it holds near 20C all winter, so the air over the southern coast settles at 20 to 23C in January. Nothing here closes.

Mount Teide does the quiet work. At 3,715 metres it is Spain’s highest peak, and it shelters the southern courses from most of the weather that bothers the island’s green north. Maintenance happens in summer, when the visitors thin out, so January golf runs on full fairways and proper pin positions.

The price is the other surprise. Winter golf breaks in Tenerife start at £365 (≈ €415) (≈ $485) (≈ CA$675) (≈ AU$685) (≈ NZ$835) (≈ CHF 385) pp for 3 nights and 2 rounds, sharing, at a 4-star a short walk from the Costa Adeje seafront. See the £365 (≈ €415) (≈ $485) (≈ CA$675) (≈ AU$685) (≈ NZ$835) (≈ CHF 385) dates at Iberostar Bouganville Playa.

Tenerife golf holidays from £365 (≈ €415) (≈ $485) (≈ CA$675) (≈ AU$685) (≈ NZ$835) (≈ CHF 385) pp: the Costa Adeje value picks

Costa Adeje is the base most of our Tenerife golf holidays are built around. The courses packages here usually use, Golf Costa Adeje and Golf Las Américas, sit within fifteen minutes of the hotels. Golf Costa Adeje plays across old banana-farming terraces, dry-stone walls still crossing several holes, with the Atlantic below you on the closing stretch. Las Américas is flatter, palm-lined and right in town.

The Iberostar Bouganville Playa is the value pick at £365 (≈ €415) (≈ $485) (≈ CA$675) (≈ AU$685) (≈ NZ$835) (≈ CHF 385) pp for 3 nights and 2 rounds. It is a 4-star a few minutes from the seafront promenade that runs from Playa del Duque down towards Los Cristianos, which matters when half your group plays golf and the other half does not. Breakfast on the terrace in January is shirtsleeves weather. Evenings stay mild.

The Hotel Dreams Jardin Tropical is the step up at £400 (≈ €455) (≈ $535) (≈ CA$745) (≈ AU$755) (≈ NZ$915) (≈ CHF 425) pp for the same 3-night, 2-round shape. White Moorish-style architecture, gardens that have had decades to grow in, and a seafront position at San Eugenio. It fills early in winter for good reason. See the £400 (≈ €455) (≈ $535) (≈ CA$745) (≈ AU$755) (≈ NZ$915) (≈ CHF 425) dates at Hotel Dreams Jardin Tropical.

Royal Garden Villas and the ferry hop to La Gomera

Two quieter options sit either side of the standard hotel break. Royal Garden Villas, at £515 (≈ €595) (≈ $685) (≈ CA$965) (≈ AU$975) (≈ NZ$1,185) (≈ CHF 545) pp for 3 nights and 2 rounds, is a small set of 5-star villas beside Golf Costa Adeje, each with its own heated pool and a proper kitchen. Nights are silent. For two couples, or four golfers who have done the big-hotel thing, it is the best sleep on the island. See the £515 (≈ €595) (≈ $685) (≈ CA$965) (≈ AU$975) (≈ NZ$1,185) (≈ CHF 545) dates at Royal Garden Villas.

The other option asks for a ferry ticket, and we will be straight about that. Hotel Jardin Tecina is on La Gomera, the next island west, reached by a crossing of about 50 minutes from Los Cristianos in south Tenerife. What the ferry buys you is Tecina Golf, a clifftop Donald Steel course where most holes look across the water towards Teide, on an island with no high-rise anything. £440 (≈ €505) (≈ $585) (≈ CA$825) (≈ AU$835) (≈ NZ$1,005) (≈ CHF 465) pp covers 3 nights and 2 rounds. It suits a second visit, or anyone after the quietest golf available in Europe in January. See the £440 (≈ €505) (≈ $585) (≈ CA$825) (≈ AU$835) (≈ NZ$1,005) (≈ CHF 465) dates at Hotel Jardin Tecina.

Tenerife golf in January and February: the honest weather picture

The numbers for January and February golf in Tenerife: daytime highs of 20 to 23C on the south coast, sea around 19C, and six hours or so of usable sun even in the shortest weeks. Rain in the south is rare and brief. You will play in a polo shirt and you will not see a temporary green.

The honest caveat is wind. The northeast trade winds that keep the Canaries comfortable also pick up on exposed holes, particularly along the coast in the afternoon. Mornings run calmer. A two-club wind on a seaside par 3 is part of Canarian golf; treat it as a links lesson with the heating on.

That points to the second truth: January is peak season here, and the tee sheets fill with real bookings from British, Irish, German and Scandinavian golfers escaping the same weather you are. That is simply how the calendar works. If you want mid-morning times in late January, book months ahead rather than weeks. See the £365 (≈ €415) (≈ $485) (≈ CA$675) (≈ AU$685) (≈ NZ$835) (≈ CHF 385) dates at Iberostar Bouganville Playa and get the slots held early.

Winter golf prices across the Canaries compared

Every price below is a real bookable package, per person sharing, with the golf included. The Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria rows are there for golfers weighing up the wider Canaries; both are alternatives to Tenerife rather than part of it.

How your Tenerife winter break comes together

We have been arranging golf travel since 1981, and the method has not changed much: one named specialist handles your trip from first email to final itinerary, and replies personally rather than through a ticket queue. You give them the dates, the group size, the courses you fancy and how much golf you actually want; they come back with a priced itinerary built on real availability.

Packages are ground-only: the hotel, the rounds and transfers where you want them. Flights are never bundled in. They can be arranged as an ATOL-protected add-on, quoted separately on top, which keeps the package price honest and lets you fly from whichever UK airport suits. We hold 4.9 from 98 Google reviews, and winter Canaries trips are a fair share of the reason why.

Three nights, two rounds, January sun. See the £365 (≈ €415) (≈ $485) (≈ CA$675) (≈ AU$685) (≈ NZ$835) (≈ CHF 385) dates at Iberostar Bouganville Playa and tell us the week that suits.

Frequently asked questions

Is Tenerife warm enough for golf in January?

Yes. The south coast runs at 20 to 23C in January with the sea around 19C, and no Tenerife course closes for winter. You play full greens and fairways all season. The main variable is the trade wind on exposed coastal holes, and mornings are usually the calmer half of the day.

How much does a winter golf break in Tenerife cost?

Real packages start at £365 (≈ €415) (≈ $485) (≈ CA$675) (≈ AU$685) (≈ NZ$835) (≈ CHF 385) pp sharing for 3 nights and 2 rounds at the 4-star Iberostar Bouganville Playa in Costa Adeje. The Hotel Dreams Jardin Tropical is £400 (≈ €455) (≈ $535) (≈ CA$745) (≈ AU$755) (≈ NZ$915) (≈ CHF 425) pp for the same shape, and Royal Garden Villas, private-pool villas beside Golf Costa Adeje, is £515 (≈ €595) (≈ $685) (≈ CA$965) (≈ AU$975) (≈ NZ$1,185) (≈ CHF 545) pp.

Are flights included in Tenerife golf holidays?

No. Our packages are ground-only, covering the hotel, the golf and transfers where wanted, which lets you fly from whichever UK airport suits you. Flights can be arranged as an ATOL-protected add-on and are always quoted separately.

How far ahead should I book January or February tee times in Tenerife?

Months rather than weeks. January and February are peak season across the Canaries and the better morning slots are taken by real bookings well in advance. If a specific week in late January matters to your group, get it priced and held early.

Is Hotel Jardin Tecina on Tenerife?

No, it is on La Gomera, the next island west, reached by a roughly 50-minute ferry from Los Cristianos in south Tenerife. The reward for the crossing is Tecina Golf, a clifftop Donald Steel course, and a far quieter island. It pairs well with a few nights in Costa Adeje.
