The 2003 Spanish Open came here, yet Costa Adeje remains the friendlier face of Tenerife golf: wide off the tee, calm beside the Atlantic, and defended almost entirely at the greens.

• Higher handicapsYou can open the shoulders here. Fairways are wide, there is next to no water to find, and the wind off the Atlantic rarely amounts to much, so the real danger is three-putting the big undulating greens.
• Serious golfersWithout wind or water to lean on, everything comes down to the putting surfaces, which roll well and undulate enough to make lag putting a skill worth practising. Condition is kept high, so it is a fair fight.
• CouplesAsk for a tee time that gets you in for lunch. The clubhouse restaurant runs French, Caribbean and Mediterranean menus and is a genuine reason to pick this course over its neighbours.
