• Serious golfersTrent Jones kept the trickery subtle here, so scoring comes down to picking lines through the gentle landscaping rather than surviving heroics. Two Italian Opens on the honours board tell you the examination is real enough.
• Higher handicapsWater turns up seven times across the 27 holes but the landscaping is gentle rather than penal, and with no climb to speak of it is an easy walk however many holes you take on.
• SocietiesTwenty seven holes give a group room to rotate loops without bottlenecks, and with the four star hotel steps from the course nobody has a transfer to worry about after dinner.
• CouplesThe hotel, the food and the scenery make this one of the easier sells to a partner who plays a bit but wants the holiday to feel like Northern Italy too.
