Belgium golf holidays

Sixteen courses within easy reach of the car, from the wide fairways of Pierpont half an hour outside Brussels to Hotel Ariane in Ypres, a ten-minute walk from the Menin Gate where the Last Post still sounds each evening. The LeShuttle crossing is included, so you load the clubs, cross under the Channel, and the holiday starts at the wheel.

Belgium is the golf break most British golfers overlook — and the one that, once played, becomes a habit. There is no flight to book and no airport to navigate: load the clubs, take LeShuttle from Folkestone, and you are on the first tee before lunch. Inside two hours of the Channel you have flat, walkable parkland around Brussels and Waterloo, a genuine coastal links on the North Sea at Knokke, and the wooded valleys of the Ardennes — all wrapped in the food, the beer and the medieval cities that make a golf trip feel like a proper escape.

We have arranged Belgium golf since 1981. Every itinerary on this page is hand-built and hand-priced around your dates, your group and the courses you want to play.

Why play golf in Belgium

Belgium rewards the golfer who likes variety without distance. Three rounds, three completely different characters — links, parkland and forest — and never more than an hour's drive between them.

  • No flight: LeShuttle from Folkestone puts you in golfing Belgium in around 90 minutes
  • Drive-and-play: bring your own clubs and car, four to a car keeps the cost down
  • Three landscapes in one trip — North Sea links, Brussels parkland, Ardennes forest
  • Easy on non-golfers: Bruges, Brussels and Ghent are world-class city breaks in their own right
  • Strong value against the Algarve or Spain once you remove flights and baggage

The courses you’ll play

Belgium's courses split cleanly by region. On the coast, Royal Zoute at Knokke is the headline — a true links and one of continental Europe's finest, with Damme, Royal Ostend and the modern dunes of Koksijde (Ter Hille) completing a links-and-parkland coastal week. Around Brussels and Waterloo the golf turns to mature parkland: Royal Waterloo, Golf de l'Empereur, La Tournette (with its USA and UK nines), Sept Fontaines, Royal Bercuit and the long-established Royal Hainaut. South and east, the Ardennes offers scenic valley courses around Durbuy, Spa and Five Nations for those who want to pair golf with the countryside.

You are never locked into one course — tell us how many rounds you want and we will build the rota around the hotel you choose.

Where you’ll stay

Where you stay decides which courses you play, so we group Belgium into two easy bases. For the coast and Bruges, Martin's Brugge puts you inside the medieval city with Damme, Ostend and Koksijde a short drive away. For Brussels and Waterloo, the five-star Martin's Chateau du Lac on the lake at Genval is the flagship, with the four-star Van der Valk Hotel Waterloo and the on-course Pierpont Golf-Hotel rounding out the choice — all within reach of the Waterloo cluster of courses.

Short breaks start from around £370 (≈ €425) (≈ $485) (≈ CA$685) (≈ AU$695) (≈ NZ$845) (≈ CHF 385) per person; a full golf week with four to five rounds sits comfortably under what the same trip costs in Spain once flights are added.

Best time to play golf in Belgium

The Belgian season runs April to October, and it is a genuine April-to-October season — the parkland courses drain well and the coast stays playable into the autumn. May, June and September are the sweet spot: long days, firm fairways and the courses at their best. July and August are warm and lively but busier on the coast. We hold dates right through the season, and booking early secures the better tee times and hotel rooms.

A sense of Belgium

History & heritage

Few golf destinations come with this much history on the doorstep. Waterloo, where Napoleon met his end in 1815, sits in the middle of the southern golf cluster — the battlefield and its lion's mound are a half-day between rounds. Bruges and Ghent are among the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe, all canals, belfries and cobbled squares, while Ypres and the Flanders Fields remembrance sites lie just inland from the coast.

Food & wine

This is one of Europe's great eating-and-drinking countries, and it matters on a golf trip. Belgian beer is a UNESCO-listed culture in its own right — Trappist ales, lambics and abbey beers, often brewed within sight of the courses. The food is hearty and unfussy: moules-frites on the coast, carbonnade and waterzooi inland, and some of the best chips and chocolate you will eat anywhere. After a round on the coast, a plate of North Sea mussels and a cold Belgian beer is the whole point.

Beyond the fairways

For the non-golfer, or the rest day, Belgium is unusually rich. Bruges and Ghent reward a full day's wandering; Brussels has the Grand-Place, the museums and the chocolatiers; the coast has long sandy beaches and the retro charm of the seaside trams. The Ardennes adds forests, castles and river valleys for anyone who wants to stretch the trip into the countryside.

Getting around & exploring

Belgium is small and the roads are quick, which is what makes the drive-and-play model work so well. Most of our golfers bring their own car on LeShuttle — four to a car is the most economical way and keeps your clubs with you the whole trip. Distances between hotel and courses are typically 15–40 minutes; the coast and the Brussels clusters are about 90 minutes apart, so some golfers split a longer trip across both.

Getting there

No flight required. LeShuttle from Folkestone to Calais takes 35 minutes, and golfing Belgium is roughly an hour's drive beyond — around 90 minutes door to first tee. Bruges is also reachable by Eurostar to Brussels and a short connection if you would rather not drive. We can include LeShuttle in your package (priced on four to a car) or build the trip around your own crossing.

Good to know

Belgium is in the eurozone and on Central European Time (one hour ahead of the UK). English is widely spoken, especially in golf and hospitality. Buggies are not always guaranteed at the more traditional clubs, so tell us if you need one and we will confirm it. Every Golf Planet Holidays trip is financially protected — ATOL for any flights you add, and your money held in trust with PTS. We have been arranging this since 1981; tell us your dates and group and we will hand-build the quote, usually within 15 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Golf holidays in Belgium — answers to the questions our golfers ask most.

Which area of Belgium is best for golfers?

Belgium has two main areas of golf interest. Near Bruges in the north (Flanders), you'll find a cluster of excellent parkland courses within easy reach of the historic city centre — perfect for combining golf with sightseeing. Around Brussels, there are some of Belgium's most prestigious clubs including Royal Belgian Golf Club. For most visitors, the Bruges area offers the best combination of golf quality, value and tourist attractions. We'll discuss which area suits your group's preferences and travel logistics.

What language do they speak in Belgium?

Belgium has three official languages: Dutch (Flemish) in the north, French in the south, and German in a small eastern pocket. In Bruges, you'll hear predominantly Dutch/Flemish; in Brussels, both French and Dutch are widely spoken. English is spoken fluently throughout Belgium — in hotels, golf clubs, restaurants and tourist attractions. You will have absolutely no difficulty communicating in English anywhere you play golf in Belgium. The country's multilingual culture makes it one of the most visitor-friendly destinations in Europe.

Do I need to go through a passport check when entering Belgium?

Belgium is part of the Schengen Area, so if you're travelling from another Schengen country, there are no passport checks at internal borders. However, UK citizens travelling from the UK to Belgium do need to show a valid passport, as the UK is outside the Schengen zone post-Brexit. Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay. No visa is required for UK citizens for stays under 90 days. Border checks are typically quick and straightforward at Brussels Airport and Eurostar terminals.

Are flights included?

Our golf holidays are arranged ground-only — hotel, golf and transfers. You can add flights through us, and those flights are ATOL protected as part of your booking.

How do golf holidays with Golf Planet Holidays work?

Every trip is tailor-made. Tell us your group, dates and the destinations you fancy, and we build a personal itinerary — hotel, golf and transfers — around them. There are no fixed packages to squeeze into; we shape the whole break to suit how your group likes to play.

How much does a golf holiday cost?

It depends on the destination, hotel, dates and how many rounds you want, so every quote is built individually. Many breaks start in the mid-hundreds per person; winter-sun and long-haul trips cost more. Get a free, no-obligation quote and we'll confirm your figure.
