About Circolo Villa d’Este Golf Club
Circola Villa d'Este Golf Club is as beautiful as you'd expect it to be in this stunning location near Lake Como. Set out on pleasant walking terrain, there are plenty of trees and small bunkers to avoid so accuracy rather than length is the order of the day. The six Par three’s – all of which demand a different plan of attack – reinforce the need to know your golfing strengths and limitations. But don't stress yourself, this is a golf course to savour. Three miles south-east of Como.

Our take
Six par threes and a card reading 69 tell you what Villa d'Este values, and it is not how far you hit it.
- Serious golfersEach of the six par threes demands its own plan, which is where the round is won or lost. Peter Gannon gave the course small bunkers and tree lines instead of length, and it holds up.
- Higher handicapsPleasant walking, sheltered air and just one water hazard all round make this one of the kinder courses near Lake Como. The trees and bunkers will nibble at a loose round without ever wrecking it.
- CouplesA course to savour rather than battle. Gentle underfoot, lovely to look at and short enough to leave the afternoon free for the lake, it suits a pair who play for pleasure.

What you are actually facing
The wind. The wind is usually northerly, averaging 5 km/h. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 1 hazard in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Peter Gannon.
