About Monticello Golf Club
Monticello is one of the great clubs of Italy not far from Milan. This 36-hole resort has hosted the Italian Open on numerous occasions. The longer of the two courses – Rosso or Red – is generally preferred and is a parkland design with a few tighter woodland holes and a couple around water. Mid to high handicappers won’t find the challenge too tough but the hazards will post plenty of problems for the longer and more aggressive player. Six miles south-west of Como. The blue course is also parkland but slightly more technical. If the golf isn't enough of a delight, tour the circular clubhouse. The whole package here is designed to entertain.

Our take
If you want Italian Open pedigree on a Milan golf trip, Monticello's 36 holes have staged it many times over.
- Serious golfersPlay the Rosso, the longer course and generally the preferred one. The hazards are placed to trouble long and aggressive hitters, so an Italian Open venue still bites when you take it on.
- Higher handicapsMid and high handicappers get an easier ride than the big hitters here, since the trouble mostly waits where the brave take it on. Flat walking and gentle air keep the round comfortable.
- SocietiesA 36 hole venue close to Milan suits a society outing well. Everyone walks it comfortably on the flat ground, the Rosso gives the lower handicaps their test, and nobody plays the same hole twice all trip.

What you are actually facing
The wind. The wind is usually northerly, averaging 6 km/h. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 12 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
