A big thank you again Simon for organising our latest trip, this time to Quinta Do Lago. Your recommendation to include Ombria was well worth it ,you might need a few spare balls but it is a great course in the making and worth a visit.…

Beyond the golf

Life away from the course at Amendoeira Golf Resort

Self-contained resort

Amendoeira is a self-contained sort of base, and the honest bit first: nothing sits within strolling distance of the resort, so evenings out mean a short drive or taxi. Once you do head out, though, there are nearly sixty restaurants, twenty or so cafes and a handful of bars close by, with Alcantarilha, the nearest town, just over two kilometres away. Aqualand is 1.5km down the road, handy if there is family in tow. Plenty of groups cook in and stay put, and that works well here too. Tell us who's coming and we'll pick the base that fits your group's evenings.

Nothing is within walking distance of the resort, so evenings out mean a short drive or taxi rather than a stroll.

Amendoeira Golf Resort: your questions answered

Is Amendoeira Golf Resort worth it?

Yes, if value and on-site golf are your priorities. You get two 18-hole championship courses, the Faldo and the O'Connor Jnr, without leaving the resort, plus a floodlit par 3 academy course for evening practice. Bear in mind the accommodation is apartments and villas rather than a traditional hotel, so it best suits groups and families who like their own space.

How many golf courses does Amendoeira have?

Two 18-hole championship courses sit on site: the Faldo Course and the O'Connor Jnr Course. There is also a 9-hole par 3 academy course, which is floodlit for evening play, and a Golf Academy if anyone in your group wants coaching. Having everything within the resort means no daily transfers to reach your rounds, which keeps a short break simple.

How much does a golf holiday at Amendoeira cost?

Packages start at £320 (≈ €365) (≈ $425) (≈ CA$605) (≈ AU$615) (≈ NZ$745) (≈ CHF 335) per person for three nights bed and breakfast with two rounds. Four nights with three rounds is from £500 (≈ €575) (≈ $665) (≈ CA$945) (≈ AU$955) (≈ NZ$1,165) (≈ CHF 535), five nights with four rounds from £605 (≈ €705) (≈ $805) (≈ CA$1,145) (≈ AU$1,155) (≈ NZ$1,415) (≈ CHF 645), and seven nights with five rounds from £810 (≈ €945) (≈ $1,075) (≈ CA$1,535) (≈ AU$1,555) (≈ NZ$1,895) (≈ CHF 865). Green fees are built into every Golf Planet Holidays package, and prices are per person, so there are no course costs to add on top.

What is the accommodation like at Amendoeira Golf Resort?

It is a four-star resort with a mix of modern apartments and villas rather than hotel rooms. The apartments share swimming pools, while every villa has its own private pool, which works well for groups who want a base to themselves. Packages are sold on a bed and breakfast basis, so breakfast is covered whichever option you choose.

Where is Amendoeira Golf Resort?

Amendoeira is in the Western Algarve, roughly 2km from Alcantarilha. Both championship courses are on the resort itself, so once you arrive the golf is on your doorstep rather than a drive away. If you want transfers arranged, your Golf Planet Holidays specialist sorts those as part of the trip.

Can I book Amendoeira Golf Resort through Golf Planet Holidays?

Yes. Golf Planet Holidays has hand-built golf holidays since 1981 and is rated 4.9 on Google, with PTS protection and ATOL cover where flights are included. A named golf specialist plans your Amendoeira trip around your dates, books the tee times and arranges any transfers. Enquiries are free, there is no payment or obligation, and your quote arrives by email. Flights are an optional add-on if you want them.

Frequently asked questions

Golf holidays in Portugal — answers to the questions our golfers ask most.

How much does a golf holiday in Portugal cost?

Golf holidays in Portugal start from £205 (≈ €235) (≈ $265) (≈ CA$385) (≈ AU$385) (≈ NZ$475) (≈ CHF 215) pp with Golf Planet Holidays. That is a tailor-made ground package, and the final price depends on your hotel, the courses you play and the season.

Which region of Portugal is best for golfers?

The Algarve is Portugal's most popular golf region and home to the highest concentration of top courses — Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo, Vilamoura and Monte Rei are all within an hour of Faro Airport. The Lisbon Coast is growing rapidly in popularity with outstanding courses including Oitavos Dunes, Aroeira and Royal Obidos, plus easy access to Lisbon city. Madeira suits those wanting dramatic scenery and a quieter atmosphere. We'll help you choose based on your preferred courses, budget and travel dates.

Do I need a hire car in Portugal?

For most Algarve golf holidays, a hire car is optional rather than essential. Many resorts — particularly in Vilamoura and Vale do Lobo — have golf courses and facilities on-site or within walking distance. We include private transfers from Faro Airport to your hotel in all packages, and can arrange inter-course transfers as needed. That said, a hire car gives you the freedom to explore the Algarve's beaches, villages and restaurants at your own pace — we're happy to recommend the best approach for your group.

When is the best time to play golf in Portugal?

Spring and autumn, roughly March to May and September to November, are best, and the Algarve's mild winters make it a year-round escape.

How many golf courses are there in Portugal?

We feature 44 courses and 54 resorts across Portugal including Quinta do Vale and Ribagolfe. Your specialist matches the courses to your group's standard and budget.

Is there plenty for non-golfers to do in Portugal?

Portugal offers non-golfers a wonderful range of experiences. The Algarve has superb Atlantic beaches, historic Moorish towns like Tavira, excellent seafood restaurants and water sports. Lisbon — accessible from the Lisbon Coast courses — is one of Europe's most captivating cities, with world-class museums, vibrant food markets and stunning architecture. The Sintra palaces, Évora's Roman ruins and the Douro Valley wine region are all within reach. Portugal consistently ranks among Europe's favourite holiday destinations for very good reason.
