The championship course at Dubai Creek Golf Club is an oasis in the heart of this desert city. From your drive on the first tee across the water to the spectacular 18th green, this course will stay in your mind for a long time. The manicured fairways are undulating, with date and palm trees and plenty of water to negotiate. Apart from the Creek, several artificial lakes are there to raise the level of difficulty of this par 71 course. Opened in 1993 Dubai Creek has hosted numerous tournaments, including the Dubai Desert Classic.

Our take
Your opening drive at Dubai Creek is across water, which tells you most of what you need to know about the round ahead.
- Serious golfersWith barely any wind most days, the water does all the defending. Between the creek and the artificial lakes it crowds around seven holes, and the 4th and 10th are the two that ruin scorecards.
- Higher handicapsA par 71 that asks you to carry water from the first tee will cost you balls, no way round it. Lay up where you can and treat the 18th green as the reward.
- CouplesAn oasis in the middle of the city, flat to walk and easy on the eye, with date palms lining undulating fairways and a spectacular closing hole to talk about afterwards.
Tell us who’s coming and how you like to play, and we’ll shape the right trip around you.
What you are actually facing
The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 40 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually westerly, averaging 9 km/h. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 7 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The holes that will cost you. The 10th, the 4th and the 13th. The 10th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
Hole by hole — how we would play it
