Why the Cape is the best value in five-star golf
South Africa golf holidays start from
That is why the Cape has become the value play in five-star golf: Atlantic light, mountain courses, proper service, and a bar bill that makes you check the receipt twice in a good way. The cheapest way in is on the east coast. See the
When to go: November to March, and why February wins
The Cape season runs November to March, which is high summer there and the dead of winter here. While British fairways sit under frost sheets and temporary greens, Stellenbosch is dry, warm and playing firm. February is the pick: the December crowds have gone home, the southeaster the locals call the Cape Doctor has usually settled, and the evenings stay light until after eight. It rarely rains.
One honest caveat. The flight from London is overnight and around eleven and a half hours, and flights are quoted separately, with ATOL protection where flights are included. The compensation is the clock: Cape Town sits just two hours ahead of the UK, so you land at breakfast without jet lag and can play that afternoon. If whales appeal more than high summer, Hermanus runs to a different calendar. See the

Winelands golf, hosted: the Western Cape Spring Tour 2027
The simplest way to play Winelands golf is to let us host it. The Western Cape Spring Tour runs 28 February to 9 March 2027, hosted in person by Sue from the GPH team and capped at 12 guests. Six rounds are pre-booked: Erinvale, Ernie Els’s home club, then Stellenbosch, Devonvale, Metropolitan, Steenberg and Royal Cape. You stay four nights at Silver Forest in Somerset West and five at The Vineyard in Cape Town. Sue hosts it.

Hermanus, the Garden Route and Durban: the full price ladder
The Cape takes the headlines, and the rest of the coast keeps the prices honest. From Durban’s warm winters to a Big Five reserve above Mossel Bay, the same rand arithmetic applies all the way up the ladder. Here it is, cheapest first, every figure a real bookable package price per person sharing.
| Venue | From (pp) | Nights and rounds | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Benjamin Hotel, Durban | 3 nights, 2 rounds | Durban warmth on the smallest budget | |
| Cape St. Francis Resort | 3 nights, 2 rounds | Quiet Eastern Cape surf-town golf | |
| Harbour House Hotel, Hermanus | 3 nights, 2 rounds | On the old harbour, whales June to November | |
| Beverly Hills, Umhlanga | 3 nights, 2 rounds | Five-star beachfront just north of Durban | |
| African Oceans Manor, Mossel Bay | 3 nights, 2 rounds | Five-star gateway to the Garden Route | |
| Thirty On Grace, Cape Town | 3 nights, 2 rounds | Guesthouse base for the city courses | |
| The Bay Hotel, Camps Bay | Tailor-made | Camps Bay beachfront, five stars | |
| Gondwana Game Reserve | Tailor-made | Big Five safari paired with Garden Route golf |
Two notes on that list. The southern right whales arrive off Hermanus between June and November, which is the Cape winter, so pack for the odd wet morning if you travel for the whales rather than the golf. Gondwana is different. It is a Big Five reserve inland from Mossel Bay where game drives share the bill with Garden Route golf; see the
