South Africa golf holidays: Cape Town and the Winelands, properly planned

The Cape season runs November to March, which is high summer there and the dead of winter here. While British fairways sit under frost sheets and temporary greens, Stellenbosch is dry, warm and playing firm. February is the pick: the December crowds have gone home, the southeaster the locals call the Cape Doctor has usually settled, and the evenings stay light until after eight. It rarely rains.

One honest caveat. The flight from London is overnight and around eleven and a half hours, and flights are quoted separately, with ATOL protection where flights are included. The compensation is the clock: Cape Town sits just two hours ahead of the UK, so you land at breakfast without jet lag and can play that afternoon. For Cape Town golf holidays the base decides the trip. Camps Bay is the postcard option.
