About Royal Cape Golf Club
Over more than a century Royal Cape golf course has evolved into a classic parkland course that provides a fine test of golf as well as a wonderful playing experience. Royal Cape is a traditional test of your game, although the numerous ponds and lakes teeming with bird life provide beauty and distraction along the way.
The course is on the flat but there is near constant wind and water features, or hazards, to catch you. The course is in superb condition all year round with well grassed fairways, smooth greens and challenging bunkers.
Royal Cape is without doubt one of the best and most challenging courses to play on the Western Cape. It is a course of championship stature, playing to a par of 72, which has hosted the SA Open ten times as well as many other professional and top amateur events. Winners at Royal Cape include Gary Player, Ernie Els, Mark McNulty and Trevor Immelman. Part of Sue's Hosted Tour!

Our take
A century of golf has shaped Royal Cape into flat, classic parkland where the wind and the water do the examining.
- Serious golfersA traditional parkland examination in the old style. The card looks gentle until the wind gets up, which it does most days here, and the ponds start collecting anything struck without conviction.
- Higher handicapsCompletely flat, so there is no slog, and the trouble sits in plain view. Club sensibly around the water, allow for the wind and you will get round with your ball intact.
- SocietiesFlat underfoot from first tee to last, so nobody in the group is struggling as the round wears on, and a club with over a century of golf behind it gives a society day a proper sense of occasion.

The wind. The wind is usually southerly, averaging 9 km/h, gusting to 33. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
