About Clovelly Golf Club
Clovelly is a beautifully laid out golf course outside Cape Town. It's a tight layout with a testing mix of challenging holes and elevated greens. There are natural water features and a wide variety of indigenous flora and fauna. The rough is tricky, so go down a club or two if you're a bit wayward on the day.

Our take
The rough at Clovelly grabs anything loose, the greens sit up on plateaus, and the wind is rarely off duty, so this tight layout punches well above its scorecard.
- Serious golfersElevated greens and clinging rough put the premium on approach play, and with the wind usually up, taking an extra club into the raised surfaces is rarely wrong.
- Higher handicapsFair warning: the tight lines and grabby rough will bruise a wayward 20 handicapper, so do as the club itself suggests and go down a club or two off the tee; the level walk is the mercy.
- Buddy tripsWith Royal Cape, Westlake and Steenberg all within half an hour, Clovelly anchors a course-a-day Cape Town stretch, and its eleven water features guarantee somebody in the group loses the ball that decides the match.
