About Westlake Golf Club
Westlake is a parkland style golf course designed by the club's own members nearly 100 years ago. Many significant improvements have been made over the years making the course a popular choice for visitors to Cape Town.
The greens are all Poa Annua which is a very delicate grass that requires lots of care but if managed correctly, delivers an excellent putting surface. Fairways, semi-rough, tee boxes and rough are mainly Kikuyu grass, standard in South Africa.
The golf course is meticulously managed. Westlake likes to pride itself in delivering a true test of golf.

Our take
Westlake wears its near-hundred years lightly, an easy-walking members' parkland in Cape Town whose fussed-over Poa annua greens are the best part of the day.
- Serious golfersThe Poa annua greens are the star turn, a delicate grass coaxed into an excellent putting surface, and with eleven water features keeping tee shots honest there are chances for anyone driving it straight.
- Higher handicapsKind on the legs with just eleven metres of climb all day, and the kikuyu fairways sit the ball up nicely; just watch the start, because the first and the third wreck more cards than anything that follows.
- SocietiesA parkland the members designed themselves nearly a century ago and visitors to Cape Town keep coming back to, flat enough for every age in the group, with putting surfaces that give everyone something to argue about afterwards.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 11 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually south-easterly, averaging 13 km/h, gusting to 38. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 11 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
