A Buddies’ Golf Getaway to South Africa
South Africa By The Golf Planet Holidays Team · Golf-travel specialists since 1981 · Published 1 June 2026 At a glance How much does a buddies' golf trip to South Africa cost? Golf Planet Holidays runs tailor-made South Africa golf getaways for groups of 4 to 8 from £290 per person for ground arrangements (hotel, […]
Every group has that one trip a year that actually matters. Not the diary-clogging stuff — the real one. Four to eight of you, a bag of clubs each, a scorecard that means everything and nothing, and the kind of banter that only travels well at altitude over a long flight south. South Africa is built for exactly this: world-class golf at prices that make the lads do a double-take, sunshine when the UK is grey, and a time zone that barely shifts so nobody loses a day to jet lag.
Golf Planet Holidays has been arranging tailor-made golf trips since 1981, and a buddies’ getaway to the Cape is one we love putting together — because it’s all upside. Big courses, great hotels, a few cold ones afterward, and zero hassle on your end. From £290 per person for ground arrangements, we build the whole thing around your group so the only decisions you make are who’s driving the buggy and who’s buying the first round.
The courses that make the trip
Cape Town is one of golf’s great-value secrets, and the line-up is genuinely stacked. Royal Cape Golf Club is South Africa’s oldest course — a proper tournament test with the kind of history your group will be name-dropping for years. A short hop away, Metropolitan Golf Club sits right by the city with manicured fairways and Table Mountain looming over every tee shot, while King David Mowbray offers a fair but characterful round that suits mixed-handicap groups perfectly.
For the photos that end up in the group chat, Milnerton Golf Club runs along the coastline with sea on one side and the mountain on the other — links-style golf with a Cape twist. And when you want the showpiece day, Steenberg in leafy Tokai delivers a polished, modern layout in a stunning estate setting. We sequence the rota so the standout round lands when your group is loosest and the legs are still fresh.
Where you'll stay — and why it matters
A buddies’ trip lives or dies on the base camp, so we match the hotel to your group’s mood. The Bay Hotel in Camps Bay is the one if you want beachfront swagger — bars, restaurants and the Atlantic on your doorstep, ideal for a group that plays hard and goes out after. Prefer something more laid-back? The Farmhouse Hotel in Langebaan trades the buzz for lagoon views and easy, unhurried evenings. And for the wine-and-golf crowd, Spier Hotel in Stellenbosch drops you in the heart of the Cape Winelands, where a non-golfing afternoon is no afternoon wasted.
Whichever you pick, transfers, tee times and the running order are handled for you. You arrive, you play, you eat well, you settle the side-bets. That’s the brief.
Where our specialists would stay in South Africa
Booked properly, protected fully
Here’s the part that lets everyone relax. Golf Planet Holidays is ATOL Protected, and every penny your group pays is held in trust with PTS until you have travelled — so the money is ring-fenced, not spent in advance. Whoever’s been nominated treasurer can collect from the lads and pay us in GBP knowing the funds are safe right up until you’re on the plane.
Because we’re enquiry-based and tailor-made, nothing is off-the-shelf. Tell us your dates, your numbers, your handicaps and your budget, and we’ll build the itinerary around them. We can add flights as an ATOL-protected option — and for groups travelling from the US, the value really shows: South Africa’s green fees and hotel rates undercut comparable golf destinations sharply, so the long-haul fare is often more than offset by what you save on the ground. If your group would rather have someone running point on the trip, ask us about hosted and escorted group options too, so even the organiser gets to switch off.

Frequently asked questions
How many people do you need for a buddies' trip?
This getaway is built for groups of 4 to 8 — the sweet spot for two buggies, easy tee-time pairings and a table that fits everyone for dinner. We can arrange larger groups too; just tell us your numbers when you enquire and we’ll scale the itinerary and quote accordingly.
Do flights come with the price?
The £290 per person from-price covers ground arrangements — hotel, golf and transfers. Flights are added as a separate ATOL-protected option, which keeps you in control of routing and timings. For US-based groups especially, the strong on-the-ground value in South Africa helps offset the long-haul fare.
Can we mix golf days with other things?
Absolutely — that’s the whole point of tailor-made. Stay at Spier in Stellenbosch and build in a Winelands afternoon, base yourselves at The Bay in Camps Bay for beach and nightlife, or keep it pure golf across Royal Cape, Metropolitan, Steenberg and the rest. We design the running order around what your group actually wants.
How do we pay, and is our money safe?
You’re billed in GBP, and your money is held in trust with PTS until you have travelled, on top of our ATOL protection. That means the funds for your trip are protected and ring-fenced right up until departure — a treasurer can collect from the group and pay us with complete peace of mind.
