Challenge yourself at a championship course that has hosted the Solheim Cup and many other European tournaments - boasting six past Ryder Cup Captains as champions.
Ken Cotton designed the original Old Course in 1961. European Golf Design architect Ross McMurray extensively remodeled it in 2008 with new tee complexes, reconstructed bunkers and a testing dogleg par 5 on the 7th hole.
Enjoy a picturesque play experience featuring Ross McMurray's extensive remodeling of The Mathern course and the lovely challenge of artful water features.
Our take
Six Ryder Cup captains have won at St Pierre, and Ross McMurray's 2008 remodelling means the Old Course still deserves that history.
- Serious golfersKen Cotton's 1961 routing got new tee complexes and rebuilt bunkers in 2008, and the reworked dogleg par 5 7th is the hole your group will argue about at dinner. Mature parkland with genuine tournament pedigree, Solheim Cup included.
- Higher handicapsCompletely flat and free of water, so nothing here beats you up physically or drowns your ball. The remodelled bunkering is the main defence; take your medicine when you find it.
- SocietiesA country club set-up that has staged European tournaments handles visiting groups without fuss, and the flat walking suits mixed-ability parties. A dependable centrepiece for any Wales itinerary.

What you are actually facing
The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 13 km/h, gusting to 40. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The design. Ken Cotton.
