Costa Navarino's Dunes, Bay and Hills courses, on the Messinian coast

6 hotels · 3 courses · from £665pp · ATOL Protected

Greece arrived late to golf, and the wait was worth it. Almost everything serious happens in one extraordinary place: Costa Navarino, on the southwest Peloponnese, where olive groves run down to the Ionian Sea and the light has a clarity you remember for years. This is golf as part of a bigger Greek picture — long lunches, empty beaches, ruins older than the rules of the game — rather than a fly-and-play factory. For a certain kind of traveller, that balance is precisely the appeal: world-class courses, then time to do nothing at all.

We have arranged Greece golf since 1981. Every itinerary is hand-built and hand-priced around your dates, your group and the courses you want to play.

Why play golf in Greece

  • Four genuinely distinct courses on one resort — The Dunes, The Bay, The Hills and the International Olympic Academy — so a week never repeats itself.
  • Coastal, Mediterranean golf with sea views, olive terraces and a landscape that feels uniquely Greek.
  • A self-contained luxury base in Costa Navarino, with three hotels to suit different tastes and budgets.
  • Quiet by Algarve or Spanish standards — fairways rarely feel crowded, even in peak season.
  • Ideal for golfers travelling with non-golfers: beaches, spa, history and food fill the off-course hours easily.
  • A long, kind playing window from spring through autumn, with mild winters for those who want it quieter still.

The courses you’ll play

All of Greece's destination golf sits at Costa Navarino, and the variety is the point. The Dunes course is the original — Bernhard Langer's design winding between olive groves, water and the sea, the resort's signature test. The Bay Course is shorter and more dramatic, climbing the hillside above Navarino Bay with views over the Ionian on nearly every hole. The newer pairing of The Hills course and the International Olympic Academy course adds two further contrasting nines and eighteens inland, giving serious golfers a full week without playing the same ground twice. We help you build the playing order — and the tee times — around your group's pace and appetite.

Where you’ll stay

Costa Navarino offers three hotels, and which one we choose shapes the whole trip. The Romanos is the classic flagship — generous, polished and family-friendly, set among the gardens above Navarino Dunes. The Westin Resort Costa Navarino sits alongside it, sharing the beachfront and facilities with a slightly more relaxed, all-in feel. W Costa Navarino is the design-led option a short drive away at Navarino Waterfront — adults-skewed, contemporary and made for couples who want style and a livelier evening scene. We match the hotel to who's travelling, then position you for the courses you most want to play.

Best time to play golf in Greece

Spring and autumn are the sweet spots in this part of Greece. April to June brings green hillsides, wildflowers and warm-but-comfortable golfing weather; September and October offer warm seas, ripe-light evenings and fewer crowds — for many, the finest combination of the year. High summer (July and August) is hot and busy, lovely for beach days but demanding on the course, so we'll book the earliest tee times. Winters are mild but cooler and much quieter — pleasant for a calm escape, though this is not a guaranteed winter-sun destination. For most golfers, we steer towards the spring and autumn shoulders.

A sense of Greece

History & heritage

The southwest Peloponnese is one of the most history-soaked corners of Greece, and Costa Navarino sits in the middle of it. Nearby Pylos and Navarino Bay carry the weight of antiquity and the famous 1827 naval battle; the Palace of Nestor, one of the best-preserved Mycenaean sites in the country, is a short drive inland. This is the Greece of stone villages, Venetian fortresses and roadside chapels rather than crowded islands. We can fold a half-day of sightseeing into a golf week — easily arranged, never rushed — so the trip carries some of the region's depth as well as its fairways.

Food & wine

Messinian cooking is among the best reasons to come. This is the heartland of Greek olive oil — the resort sits among working groves — and the local table leans on it: grilled fish straight off the Ionian, slow-cooked lamb, wild greens, honey and yoghurt, tomatoes that actually taste of tomatoes. The Peloponnese also makes characterful wines, from crisp coastal whites to robust reds, and Costa Navarino's restaurants range from relaxed taverna-style dining to refined fine dining across its hotels. We're happy to point you towards the tables worth booking, on resort and in the nearby villages.

Beyond the fairways

Costa Navarino is built for the days you don't play. The beaches along Navarino Bay are long, calm and beautiful; the Anazoe Spa is a serious wellness destination in its own right; and there's sailing, watersports, cycling and a kids' programme for families. Off resort, the harbour town of Pylos, the fortress at Methoni and the Palace of Nestor all sit within easy reach for a half-day out. It's the kind of place where a non-golfing partner is as well looked after as the golfer — which, for many of our groups, is what makes the whole trip work.

Getting around & exploring

Costa Navarino is a resort you can largely settle into, with shuttles linking the hotels, golf and beaches, so you don't strictly need a car to enjoy the golf. That said, the southwest Peloponnese rewards exploration — Pylos, Methoni and the inland villages are best reached by car — so we often arrange a hire car or private transfers for the days you want to roam. For airport arrivals we can set up private transfers direct to your hotel, taking the driving out of the equation entirely on day one. We'll advise the right mix for your itinerary.

Getting there

The nearest gateway is Kalamata Airport, a short and scenic drive from Costa Navarino, with Athens the larger long-haul option a few hours away by road. Flights are arranged separately as an ATOL-protected add-on — we are a ground-only operator, so air travel is never bundled into the package, which keeps your routing and carrier choice flexible. Tell us your preferred departure airport and dates and we'll build the flight option alongside your itinerary, then handle the airport transfers at the Greek end.

Good to know

  • Currency: Greece uses the euro. Costa Navarino is largely card-friendly, but carry some cash for villages and tavernas.
  • Ground-only: flights are a separate ATOL-protected add-on, never included in the package — your routing stays flexible.
  • One golf base: Greece's destination golf is concentrated at Costa Navarino, so itineraries are built around the resort and its courses.
  • Tee times: in peak summer we book early-morning slots to beat the heat — book well ahead for spring and autumn dates.
  • Travelling with non-golfers: the resort's beaches, spa and history make it a genuinely balanced trip, not a golf-only one.
  • We hand-pick the hotel, courses and tee times around your group — every Greece itinerary is built and priced to order, not off a shelf.

Frequently asked questions

Golf holidays in Greece — answers to the questions our golfers ask most.

How do I know which hotel will suit me in Greece?

Costa Navarino offers a choice of exceptional accommodation within its 3,500-acre estate in the Peloponnese. The Westin Costa Navarino suits those who prefer a lively resort atmosphere with multiple restaurants and bars. The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort, offers a more exclusive, tranquil experience. Both are world-class properties with direct access to the golf courses. We'll discuss your preference for atmosphere, service style and budget to ensure you're in the right property for your holiday.

Do I need a hirecar in Greece?

A hire car is not essential for golf at Costa Navarino — the resort operates a free shuttle between its hotels and all four golf courses on the estate. However, the wider Peloponnese is one of Greece's most historically rich regions, with ancient Olympia, the fortress of Mystras and the dramatic Mani peninsula all within driving distance. If you want to explore beyond the resort, a hire car or private excursions greatly enhance your visit. We can arrange both as part of your package.

Are buggies available in Greece?

Yes, buggies are available at all four Costa Navarino courses — Navarino Bay, Navarino Dunes, Navarino Hills and The International Olive Grove. Given the courses' elevation changes and varying terrain, buggies are recommended particularly for the Bay and Dunes layouts. We advise booking buggies in advance, especially during peak season (April–June and September–October), to guarantee availability. Buggy rental costs are typically €30–40 per round per buggy and we factor these into your overall package planning.

Is Costa Navarino a good resort for golf groups?

Costa Navarino is a popular choice  for small groups and there are great discounts if you want to bring your own teaching pro.

Are flights included?

Our golf holidays are arranged ground-only — hotel, golf and transfers. You can add flights through us, and those flights are ATOL protected as part of your booking.

How do golf holidays with Golf Planet Holidays work?

Every trip is tailor-made. Tell us your group, dates and the destinations you fancy, and we build a personal itinerary — hotel, golf and transfers — around them. There are no fixed packages to squeeze into; we shape the whole break to suit how your group likes to play.
