Golf Planet Holidays organised a fantastic golf trip to France for us. Everything was perfectly arranged, and the communication was excellent. Simon and Heather were incredibly helpful throughout. Highly recommended!
About Bondues Golf Club
Bondues is the “big club” of Lille with two courses – the Trent Jones (Snr and Jnr) and the Hawtree – and a magnificent chateau clubhouse. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2018, the golf club is the result of an ambitious renovation project of an abandoned chateau and its substantial grounds.
Fred Hawtree created Bondues immediately after completing the exclusive Saint Nom La Breteche, just outside Paris. The Hawtree course is English-style parkland and the Trent Jones far more target-design with plenty of large bunkers and great water features. Trent Jones Senior was responsible for the front nine and Trent Jones Junior for the back nine. Both courses are easy to walk but buggies are available. Private but open to our clients throughout the summer and midweek spring and autumn.
- Buggies are available
- Clubhouse restaurant and bar
- Close to the golf courses at Golf de Brigode, Le Sart and Lille Merignies
Our take
Water is the story on the Trent Jones course at Bondues, threading through nearly every hole, with a chateau clubhouse that makes the post-round drink feel like an event.
- Serious golfersFather and son Trent Jones built a course where the water never quite leaves you alone, and the 4th and the 18th are the holes that decide matches. Finishing in front of the chateau with your card intact takes some doing.
- Higher handicapsPack more balls than you think you need. The walk is dead flat, barely 20 metres of climb all day, but with water lurking on almost every hole a wayward iron game gets expensive quickly.
- SocietiesLille's big club offers two full courses, the Trent Jones and the English-style Hawtree parkland, so a society plays 36 without repeating a hole and settles up afterwards in a chateau.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 21 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 12 km/h, gusting to 44. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. Water is very much in play across this course. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Robert Trent Jones Sr & Jr.
The holes that will cost you. The 4th, the 18th and the 12th. The 18th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
