South Africa By The Golf Planet Holidays Team · Golf-travel specialists since 1981 · Published 9 October 2025 Here is the truth about going solo: hardly anyone wants to play golf alone. What solo golfers actually want is a trip they can book without waiting for four diaries to line up, and the promise that […]
Travel alone, never feel alone
The fear is never the golf. It is the first evening, the table for one, the worry that the fourballs will close ranks without you. A hosted tour deletes that problem on day one: there is a welcome dinner, a host whose actual job is introductions, and tee sheets arranged so every round has company. Most of our hosted guests arrive solo. By the third morning the group sorts its own pairings over breakfast.
Golfers who have travelled alone with groups say the same thing in different words: the golf was excellent, but the people made the trip. You will leave with phone numbers.
Join Sue's Western Cape tour, 28 February to 9 March 2027
One departure, twelve guests, hosted in person by Sue from our team, start to finish. Ten days across the Cape: four nights at Silver Forest in Somerset West for the Winelands leg, then five at The Vineyard in Cape Town under Table Mountain.
Six rounds, all pre-booked: Erinvale (Ernie Els’ home club), Stellenbosch, Devonvale, Metropolitan, Steenberg and Royal Cape. In between: Winelands tastings, a free day to explore Cape Town, welcome and farewell dinners, every transfer handled.
Where our specialists would stay in South Africa
What the ten days look like
Land in Cape Town and you are met and driven to the Winelands. Then it runs: Erinvale, Stellenbosch and Devonvale on alternating days with tastings between, the move to Cape Town mid-trip, Metropolitan, a full free day in the city, Steenberg, Royal Cape, and a last-night farewell dinner before departure. Want to extend and add safari or more golf afterwards? We will build that on.
Where you'll stay and where you'll play
Cape Town and the surrounding coast give a solo golfer a rare combination — championship courses within easy reach of one another, and hotels with the kind of sociable bar-and-restaurant feel that makes eating alone a pleasure rather than a chore.
We regularly base solo travellers at The Bay Hotel in Camps Bay, steps from the beach and the strip of restaurants where a table for one never feels conspicuous. Up the coast, The Farmhouse Hotel in Langebaan looks out over the lagoon and suits a quieter, slower week. Inland in the winelands, Spier Hotel near Stellenbosch puts you among vineyards with plenty to fill the non-golf hours.
For the golf itself, the Cape’s roster is hard to beat. Metropolitan Golf Club sits right in the city with Table Mountain as its backdrop; Steenberg in Tokai pairs a manicured layout with an estate and tasting room you’ll want to linger at; and Royal Cape, Milnerton and King David Mowbray round out a week of genuine variety. We’ll sequence them to your handicap, your pace and how much you want to play.
Prefer to go it alone? We tailor-make solo too
Some golfers want the Cape on their own terms: their dates, their courses, a quiet week with no group itinerary. We arrange that happily. Two honest things to know. First, most hotels price rooms on two sharing, so we quote your single-occupancy price up front rather than letting it surprise you later. Second, South African clubs are sociable; tell us you are travelling alone and we will book the courses where a single golfer gets slotted into a game rather than sent out solo behind the fourballs.
Tailor-made, fully arranged, and protected
Golf Planet Holidays has been arranging tailor-made golf trips since 1981, and a solo holiday gets exactly the same hands-on planning as a group of eight. You tell us your dates, your courses and the pace you’d like; we come back with a full itinerary — hotel, green fees, tee times and transfers — costed in pounds with everything itemised, starting from
Your money is looked after the whole way. We’re ATOL Protected, and the money you pay is held in trust with PTS until you have travelled — so your trip is secure from the moment you book to the moment you fly home.
Flying in from the United States? South Africa is a long-haul hop worth making, and the strong dollar stretches a long way against Cape Town green fees and winelands hotels. We arrange the ground holiday and tee times; flights are an easy add-on, so just tell us your departure airport and we’ll fold them into the plan.
