Mauritius golf holidays for couples: the island done properly

Mauritius By The Golf Planet Holidays Team · Golf-travel specialists since 1981 · Published 13 June 2026 At a glance Is Mauritius good for a golf and beach holiday for couples? Yes, it is one of the best in the world for it. The championship courses sit on or beside beach resorts, so one partner […]

Mauritius
The lagoon at Belle Mare warms to about 26 degrees by late morning. That single fact tells you most of what you need to know about golf in Mauritius. You play early, before the sun has any real bite, and by the time you walk off the eighteenth your other half has had two hours on the sand and is wondering where you’ve been. It is a long flight, twelve hours or so from the UK, and the island rewards couples who treat it as one holiday with golf in it rather than a golf trip with a beach attached. The courses are properly good. The beaches are better than the brochures, which is rare. And nobody is hurrying you anywhere.

Why Mauritius works for a golf and beach holiday for couples

Two people, two different mornings, the same dinner table at night. That is the shape of a good Mauritius week. One of you tees off at half seven while the other has a slow breakfast and walks down to the water. By one o’clock you are both back at the pool. It only works if the golf and the beds sit on the same estate or close to it, which on this island they often do.

The geography helps. Mauritius is small, roughly 40 miles top to bottom, but the coasts have different characters. The east is the classic side for golf resorts, calmer lagoons, the bigger championship estates. The west is drier and more dramatic, with mountains coming down close to the sea. The north is busier and a touch livelier. You can base yourself in one place and play across two or three of them on day trips, and our specialists arrange the private transfers so neither of you is hiring a car or reading a map.

A word on timing, since it changes everything here. The cooler, drier months from May to November are the golfers’ season, comfortable to play through the middle of the day and pleasant on the beach. The southern summer, December to April, is hot and humid with a chance of a tropical downpour that clears as fast as it arrives. Neither is wrong. They just suit different couples.

The east coast: lagoon golf and the grande dame

If you want the postcard, you want the east. Constance Belle Mare Plage is the one most golfing couples have heard of, and for good reason. It opened in 1975 as ten self-catering bungalows and is now a proper resort along two kilometres of the best beach on this coast, with a recent refurbishment that added a Sisley Paris spa. Two championship courses sit on the doorstep. The Links and Legend courses at Belle Mare Plage give you a real contrast in a single stay: Legend is a par 72 laid through indigenous forest with the back nine running down toward the beachside hotels, while the Links is a more forgiving par 71 for the morning after a long dinner. From £920 (≈ €1,055) (≈ $1,225) (≈ CA$1,725) (≈ AU$1,745) (≈ NZ$2,115) (≈ CHF 975) pp, this is the grande dame of Mauritian golf and it knows it.

Further down the same coast, the Ernie Els-designed Anahita Golf Course runs along the lagoon at Beau Champ, opened in 2008 to USGA standards with six tees so the handicap gap in a couple stops mattering. The par-5 fourth, Ocean Drive, plays right along the water’s edge. Stay at The Bay Club at Anahita (£775 (≈ €895) (≈ $1,035) (≈ CA$1,445) (≈ AU$1,465) (≈ NZ$1,775) (≈ CHF 825) pp) and you have the course, a spa and a quiet stretch of beach without the scale of the bigger resorts. It suits couples who want space rather than a programme.

Where our specialists would stay in Mauritius

The south-west: links golf and all-inclusive ease

The Domaine de Bel Ombre in the south-west is where the island’s golf got serious. Le Chateau and La Reserve golf courses belong to the Heritage estate, and La Reserve is the headline: the first contemporary links course in the Indian Ocean, co-designed by Peter Matkovich and Open champion Louis Oosthuizen, opened at the end of 2023 and already named Golfweek’s number one in Africa for 2026. It is GEO Certified and genuinely different from anything else you’ll play out here. From £890 (≈ €1,025) (≈ $1,185) (≈ CA$1,665) (≈ AU$1,685) (≈ NZ$2,045) (≈ CHF 945) pp for the golf-resident rate.

For where to sleep, you have a clean choice. Heritage Le Telfair took World’s Best Golf Hotel at the 2025 World Golf Awards, with a colonial style and a wellness slant, from £890 (≈ €1,025) (≈ $1,185) (≈ CA$1,665) (≈ AU$1,685) (≈ NZ$2,045) (≈ CHF 945) pp. Its sister, Heritage Awali (from £939 (≈ €1,085) (≈ $1,255) (≈ CA$1,755) (≈ AU$1,775) (≈ NZ$2,155) (≈ CHF 995) pp, seven nights all-inclusive), is the five-star all-inclusive on the same beach with African-inspired interiors and the same two courses. If you’d rather not see a bill all week, and many couples on honeymoon-grade trips would rather not, Awali is the one I’d point you to. Same golf, same sand, and the wine is already paid for.

The wild west and the quieter corners

The west coast is the island’s other face. Drier, mountainous, a bit more rugged. Tamarina Golf Club is the only championship-standard layout on this side, sitting at the foot of Mount Rempart with views over Tamarin Bay. Rodney Wright designed it across savannah and basalt outcrops, and the seventh frames the mountain and the bay together in a way that stops most people mid-swing. From £650 (≈ €745) (≈ $865) (≈ CA$1,215) (≈ AU$1,225) (≈ NZ$1,495) (≈ CHF 685) pp, it is also the most approachable price on the island. The matching Tamarina Golf and Spa Resort is a boutique four-star with just 49 rooms, which is the point: a tranquil base for a couple who want the west’s drama without a crowd.

There is good golf in the north and the south-central too, played on tailor-made stay and play arrangements rather than at a fixed package price. Mont Choisy Le Golf in the north is a Peter Matkovich design built over an old sugar plantation, with water and volcanic rock in play. And Avalon Golf Estate in the cooler south-central uplands, another Matkovich layout, has an open rolling feel and that early-tee-time emptiness he calls the millionaire’s atmosphere. Both make excellent day trips from an east or west coast base.

How a specialist builds the week

The honest truth is that the golf is the easy part. The art is in the balance. A typical couple’s week here might be three or four rounds, not seven, with the non-golf days kept genuinely free for the spa, a catamaran out to the lagoon, or simply nothing at all. We tend to pair a championship stay-and-play base on one coast with a day trip or two to a contrasting course, so you see more of the island without packing and repacking.

We are ground-only and tailor-made, so every trip is built around your two handicaps, your dates and what each of you actually wants out of the week. Flights are an add-on we arrange and protect under ATOL where they are included; we also hold PTS and IATA. We have been doing this since 1981, and you deal with one named specialist from the first call to the airport pickup at the far end. No call centre, no being passed around.

Frequently asked questions

Which Mauritius course should we play if we only play one?

La Reserve Golf Links at the Heritage estate in Bel Ombre. It is the first contemporary links course in the Indian Ocean, co-designed by Peter Matkovich and Louis Oosthuizen, and was named Golfweek’s number one in Africa for 2026. Played on a stay at Heritage Le Telfair or the all-inclusive Heritage Awali, it is the round most couples remember longest.

Can one of us play golf while the other doesn't?

That is exactly how most couples do Mauritius. The resorts pair championship golf with a proper beach, spa and lagoon, so one of you can tee off early while the other has a slow morning by the water. Resorts like Constance Belle Mare Plage and The Bay Club at Anahita are built for precisely this.

Are flights to Mauritius included?

We are a ground-only, tailor-made specialist, so flights are arranged as an add-on rather than included by default. Where we book your flights they are protected under our ATOL. The island is roughly a twelve-hour flight from the UK, usually overnight, so most couples land in the morning and start gently.

What does a Mauritius golf holiday for couples cost?

It depends on the resort and the time of year. As a guide, the west-coast boutique option Tamarina starts from £650 (≈ €745) (≈ $865) (≈ CA$1,215) (≈ AU$1,225) (≈ NZ$1,495) (≈ CHF 685) pp, the east-coast Anahita from £775 (≈ €895) (≈ $1,035) (≈ CA$1,445) (≈ AU$1,465) (≈ NZ$1,775) (≈ CHF 825) pp, and the flagship Constance Belle Mare Plage from £920 (≈ €1,055) (≈ $1,225) (≈ CA$1,725) (≈ AU$1,745) (≈ NZ$2,115) (≈ CHF 975) pp, all ground arrangements. Because every trip is tailor-made, your specialist will price the exact week you want.

Is Mauritius a good honeymoon golf destination?

It is one of the best. The combination of warm lagoons, five-star beach resorts, spas and genuinely strong golf makes it a natural honeymoon-grade trip where neither partner has to compromise. Bel Ombre and the east coast in particular blend romance with serious courses.

Can we play courses on different parts of the island in one stay?

Yes. The island is small, around 40 miles top to bottom, so we base you on one coast and arrange private transfers to play contrasting courses elsewhere as day trips. A couple might stay east and play Anahita and Belle Mare Plage, then take a day trip west to Tamarina under Mount Rempart.
