Morocco has quietly become one of the best-value winter-sun and shoulder-season golf trips within easy reach of the UK. The country has around 40 to 45 courses clustered around Marrakech, Agadir, Rabat and Casablanca, so you can play several genuinely good layouts in a single week without long transfers. Add green fees that typically run €35 to €100 a round, and the maths starts to look very friendly against the better-known clubs in Spain and Portugal.
This guide covers the courses worth your time, when to go, how to get there and where to base yourself. Golf Planet Holidays has arranged tailor-made golf travel since 1981, and our Morocco trips are built ground-only (hotel, golf and transfers) from
Why play golf in Morocco
The modern Moroccan golf scene began with royal patronage. King Hassan II took up the game in the mid-1960s and believed it could draw tourism to a kingdom he described as
“rich in culture, heritage and hospitality, but relatively poor in terms of natural resources.”Global Golf Post
The result was Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. with associate Cabell Robinson and opened in 1971 across a 440-hectare cork-oak forest. Its championship Red Course is a par 73 of roughly 6,980 metres, and it remains the heritage flagship of the Moroccan game.
That royal legacy still runs through the calendar. The Hassan II Golf Trophy has been staged since 1971, the winner taking home a gold dagger inlaid with jewels, and it reached its 50th edition in 2026 at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam. The king also founded the women’s Lalla Meryem Cup in 1993, now part of the Ladies European Tour.
For visitors the appeal is partly the value. Green fees in Morocco typically run about €35 to €100 per round, materially below comparable Spanish and Portuguese clubs, which often sit at €100 to €180 at mid-to-high-tier courses. You get internationally designed layouts at a lower cost, in a destination that drew roughly 110,000 golf tourists a year with its strategy aimed squarely at the British and French markets. Air links have improved too: Morocco welcomed about 19.8 million visitors in 2025, with UK arrivals up around 25% and weekly UK flights nearly doubling.
The key Marrakech golf courses compared

Marrakech vs Agadir vs coastal Mazagan
The three main golf regions feel quite different, and the choice mostly comes down to summer heat and how close you want the sea. Inland Marrakech is the hottest; the Agadir and Casablanca coasts stay milder all year thanks to Atlantic breezes.
| Region | Character | Summer high | Plays |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marrakech | Inland, the densest cluster of courses, Atlas Mountain backdrop, medina and souks on the doorstep | ~37.7°C in July | Assoufid, Amelkis, Al Maaden, The Montgomerie, Samanah, Royal Golf de Marrakech, PalmGolf Ourika, Noria, Royal Palm |
| Agadir | Atlantic coast, beach-and-golf, far milder summers | ~26.5°C in August | Golf du Soleil, Golf Tazegzout |
| Coastal Mazagan (El Jadida) | True links character on the Casablanca coast, dune frontage and a constant sea breeze | ~26.6°C in August (Casablanca) | Mazagan Golf Course |
Up on the Agadir coast, Tazegzout Golf is the standout: a par-72 clifftop course of about 6,730 metres designed by Kyle Phillips and opened in 2014, set roughly 80 metres above the Atlantic among argan forest, with a much-photographed par-3 17th played over a cliff drop. Nearby Golf du Soleil, by Cabell B. Robinson, runs across hilly terrain with four large lakes. On the Casablanca coast, Mazagan Golf Course is a par-72 Gary Player links-style layout running for around 3km alongside the ocean between sand dunes, with the sea breeze always in play.
Best time to play golf in Morocco
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the sweet spots, with daytime temperatures between roughly 20°C and 28°C and reliably sunny skies. Marrakech’s average daily highs climb from about 19°C in January and 20.8°C in February through 23.7°C in March, 25.8°C in April and 29.5°C in May, then ease back to 32.4°C in September and 28.4°C in October.
High summer is the part to plan around. July and August are the months experienced golfers avoid inland: Marrakech peaks at around 37.7°C in July and 37.4°C in August and regularly exceeds 40°C, which makes midday golf on inland courses hard work. The honest caveat is that a July booking in Marrakech can be uncomfortable from late morning onwards, so an early tee time matters. The coast is the answer in summer. Agadir’s highs only reach about 26.5°C in August, and Casablanca peaks at 26.6°C, so the seaside courses stay comfortable even at the height of the season.
Rain is rarely a factor in the playing seasons. Marrakech is virtually rainless in high summer, with July averaging just 1.2 mm and August 3.4 mm, and the wettest months (February, March, April and November) sit at around 40 mm each on an annual total of about 280 mm. Morocco also works as a winter-sun bolt-hole:
“With a pleasant average temperature of 20 degrees and little rain throughout the winter months, Morocco forms the ideal destination for a winter golf break.”Golfbreaks

Where to stay and getting there
Golf Planet Holidays trips are arranged ground-only, so we build the hotel, golf and transfers around you, and flights are an optional ATOL-protected add-on rather than something baked in. That keeps you free to fly from your preferred airport on the dates that suit. Direct flights from London Gatwick to Marrakech take around 3 hours 40 minutes, Manchester to Marrakech about 3 hours 45 minutes, and Agadir roughly 3 hours 45 to 3 hours 50 minutes from either. Marrakech Menara Airport sits only about 4km from the city centre, a private transfer of around 10 to 20 minutes depending on traffic.
In Marrakech, hotels such as Kenzi Menara Palace, Iberostar Waves Club Palmeraie, Mövenpick Hotel Mansour Eddahbi, Hotel & Ryads Barriere Le Naoura and Pickalbatros Hotel du Golf Palmeraie put you close to the course cluster. Fairmont Royal Palm pairs five-star comfort with its own on-site Royal Palm Golf Course. On the Agadir coast, Tikida Golf Palace and Hyatt Place Taghazout Bay give you beach-and-golf in milder summer air. For a true on-site beach-golf resort, Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort on the Casablanca coast plays straight onto the Gary Player links and is our most affordable lead-in, from
Who Morocco suits
Morocco works for most golfing trip types. The tight cluster of Marrakech courses suits a society or a buddies group wanting plenty of golf with minimal travel between rounds, which is why we run dedicated guides for golf society trips to Morocco, group golf holidays and a buddies golf getaway. Solo travellers are well served too, with our solo golf holidays guide covering single-friendly resorts.
It’s a strong choice for couples and mixed trips. The medina, souks and spa hotels give non-golfers plenty to do while you play, and there’s more on that in our golf holidays for couples in Morocco guide. If you’re weighing Morocco against a more familiar option, our Morocco or western Algarve comparison sets the two side by side on weather, value and course quality.

Frequently asked questions
Do UK travellers need a visa for Morocco?
No. British citizens can visit Morocco for tourism without a visa for a maximum stay of 90 days, according to FCDO advice. Your UK passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the date of arrival, and it’s worth checking the border official stamps your passport on entry, as leaving can be difficult without proof of entry.
Which months are best for a Morocco golf trip?
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are ideal, with daytime temperatures around 20°C to 28°C and sunny skies. Winter (December to February) is a good winter-sun option on the coast, where Agadir and Casablanca highs sit around 20°C. Avoid July and August inland, when Marrakech regularly tops 40°C.
Are buggies and caddies available?
Yes, the major Moroccan courses are set up for international visitors and typically offer buggies and caddies, which we can arrange as part of your tailor-made package. Tell us your preference when we build the trip and we’ll confirm availability at each course you play.
Can non-golfers come along?
Absolutely. Marrakech in particular pairs golf with the medina, souks and spa hotels, so non-golfing partners have plenty to do. Resorts like Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort on the coast and the larger Marrakech hotels suit couples and mixed groups well; see our couples guide for the detail.
Is Morocco suitable for higher-handicap golfers?
Yes. Several of the headline Marrakech courses are designed with playability in mind, such as The Montgomerie Marrakech with its open fairways and large greens, and PalmGolf Marrakech Ourika offers five tee options so you can pick a length that fits your game. We’ll match the courses in your itinerary to your group’s ability.
