The first tee shot in Morocco tends to stay with you. Snow on the High Atlas catching the early light, argan and orange blossom on the air, the call to prayer drifting across a fairway cut from red earth. Few countries give a round this much setting, and the desert, the mountains and the Atlantic each shape a very different kind of course.
We have been arranging golf holidays since 1981, and Morocco is one of the trips our regulars come back for. The golf is varied and full of character, and swapping a championship course by day for the souks and rooftop terraces of Marrakech by evening is a combination nothing else within easy reach of the UK quite matches. Below are the courses we rate most highly, and the sort of test each one sets.
Marrakech: desert golf beneath the Atlas
Marrakech is Morocco’s golfing heart, and if you only play one course here, make it Assoufid Golf Club. It is a sculpted desert layout of rolling dunes and native scrub, with natural waste areas doing the work of formal bunkers and the snow-capped Atlas Mountains filling the horizon behind the greens. Position beats power. Assoufid rewards a thought-out line off the tee rather than brute length, and anyone who admires courses that feel grown from their landscape will fall for it.
It is far from the only course worth your time. Al Maaden Golf Club was laid out by Kyle Phillips, the architect behind Kingsbarns, and opened in 2010; the par 72 measures 7,184 yards and uses water across the property to good effect. The Montgomerie Marrakech, a Colin Montgomerie and European Golf Design course from 2014, is a more manicured, modern test than the desert layouts nearby. Amelkis Golf Club gives you 27 holes of Cabell B. Robinson design dating from 1995, playing to a par of 72. And for a sense of where it all began, Royal Golf de Marrakech dates to 1927, the oldest course in the city, 27 holes of mature woodland golf by Gustave Golias and Arnaud Massy. One honest word: the better-known Marrakech tee sheets fill fast in the autumn and spring peak, so it pays to book early and let us lock in the times you want.
The city makes an ideal base and the hotel choice is broad. For proper five-star polish we would send you to the Fairmont Royal Palm, from
Agadir and Taghazout: golf on the Atlantic edge
Drop down to the coast and the golf changes character entirely. Around Agadir the air is softer and the courses greener, with the Atlantic keeping the heat in check for most of the year. The course to build a trip around is Golf Tazegzout, which runs through groves of ancient argan trees to clifftop greens high above the ocean, with sea views that stand among the finest in Moroccan golf. Be warned, though. This coast is open and exposed, and an afternoon round can blow up considerably stiffer than the morning, which is part of the fun if you grew up on seaside golf and a shock if you did not.
For more golf without straying far, Golf du Soleil sits close to Agadir with 36 holes, a useful second venue for a longer stay or a group that wants variety across the week. If it comes down to one or the other, play Tazegzout.

Casablanca and El Jadida: seaside golf by the dunes
North along the coast towards Casablanca lies the Mazagan Golf Course, a Gary Player design laid out among the dunes and sea grasses of the El Jadida shoreline. It is the closest thing Morocco has to a true links. The wind is real, the ground rumples, and the course asks you to flight the ball rather than launch it high and hope. Golfers raised on British and Irish coastal golf will feel at home within three holes.

Building your Morocco golf trip
The appeal of Morocco is how readily its regions combine. A classic itinerary opens with the desert golf of Assoufid Golf Club and the riads of Marrakech, then moves to the Atlantic for clifftop rounds at Golf Tazegzout or the dune-land of the Mazagan Golf Course. Three distinct styles of golf, one trip.
Everything is built around your dates: the courses you want to play, the standard of hotel you prefer, tee times, transfers and the pace that suits your group. Hand-built Morocco golf holidays start from
Morocco golf courses: every course we play, compared
Every course in the table below is one we book, and one our specialists have played, so the notes come from the fairway rather than a brochure. Here is how Morocco’s courses compare on architect, vintage and scorecard, from the desert layouts around Marrakech to the Atlantic golf above Agadir and the dune-land of the Casablanca coast. It is the detail behind every Morocco golf holiday we plan.

Frequently asked questions
Which is the best golf course in Morocco?
Among Morocco’s courses, Assoufid Golf Club outside Marrakech is the most widely admired, a sculpted desert layout framed by the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, prized for its natural beauty and strategic, links-like challenge. On the coast, Golf Tazegzout above Agadir and the Mazagan Golf Course near Casablanca are its most compelling rivals. We can build any of them into your itinerary.
Can I play golf in both Marrakech and Agadir on one trip?
Yes, and we often recommend it. The two regions offer wonderfully different golf, desert and mountains around Marrakech at Assoufid Golf Club, ocean air and clifftop greens at Golf Tazegzout near Agadir. A specialist will arrange the transfer and sequence the courses and hotels so the journey flows naturally.
What kind of hotels do you offer in Morocco?
A full range, all hand-picked. In Marrakech that spans the five-star Fairmont Royal Palm, the elegant Mövenpick Hotel Mansour Eddahbi and the boutique Hotel & Ryads Barriere Le Naoura, through to comfortable Palmeraie resorts. On the coast we use the Hyatt Place Taghazout Bay and Tikida Golf Palace near Agadir, and the beachfront Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort near Casablanca. We match the hotel to your taste and your golf.
Is my Morocco golf holiday financially protected?
Yes. Golf Planet Holidays has arranged hand-built golf travel since 1981 and your trip is fully protected: where flights are included your holiday is ATOL protected, and your money is held securely in trust with PTS until you travel. You book and play with complete peace of mind.
Where is the best golf in Morocco?
Three regions carry the trip. Marrakech brings the desert golf, with Assoufid the standout; Agadir and Taghazout add clifftop rounds above the Atlantic at Tazegzout; and the Casablanca coast answers with the dune-land of Mazagan. They combine readily, and the combining is the point.
What are the best golf courses around Marrakech?
Assoufid is the headline act, with Al Maaden and The Montgomerie close behind. Our best golf courses in Marrakech guide ranks the full set, including the parkland days at Royal Palm and PalmGolf Ourika.
Are there all-inclusive golf resorts in Morocco?
Yes. Morocco sits alongside Belek and Tenerife in our all-inclusive golf holidays range, and it suits the format well: the golf, the meals and the transfers are settled before you fly, and the riad evenings stay yours.
