Is Northern France a good golf holiday for a couple when only one of us plays? It’s almost ideal. The golf at Le Touquet, Hardelot and Belle Dune is genuinely good, while the resort towns — Le Touquet especially — give the non-golfing partner a real day of their own: spa, beach, boutiques and the kind of long French lunch you don’t rush. You play, they unwind, and you reunite for dinner. From £495 per person, tailor-made to how much each of you actually wants to do.
How much golf should we build in versus time together? That’s the whole point of arranging it as a tailor-made trip rather than buying a fixed package. A common rhythm for couples is golf on alternate mornings — La Foret and La Mer at Le Touquet, then a day at Hardelot’s Les Pins or Les Dunes — leaving afternoons and the non-golf days free for spa, the coast or a wine-led lunch in Montreuil-sur-Mer. We’ll shape the tee times around the two of you, not the other way round.
You both fell for the idea of France for different reasons. One of you pictures the wind off the Channel, a tee box framed by pines, that first clean strike on Le Touquet’s La Mer. The other pictures something gentler — a slow lunch, a spa afternoon, a glass of something cold and local while the golf happens elsewhere. The lovely truth about Northern France is that you don’t have to choose. It’s close enough to feel easy, French enough to feel like a proper escape, and laid out so that two people who want two different days can still meet for dinner every evening with plenty to talk about.
At Golf Planet Holidays we’ve been arranging tailor-made golf trips since 1981, and couples’ breaks along the Opal Coast are one of the things we love most to plan. From £495 per person, we’ll build the whole thing around the two of you — which courses, which hotel, how much golf, how much of everything else. No package you have to bend yourself into. Just your trip, quietly handled.
Golf that's worth the crossing — for the one who plays
Le Touquet is the heart of it. The grand old resort holds two contrasting courses, and playing both in a single trip is a quiet pleasure. Le Touquet La Foret is the more sheltered of the pair — tree-lined, thoughtful, the kind of round where placement beats power and the pines do half the defending. Le Touquet La Mer is the one golfers travel for: a true links rolling through the dunes, exposed to the Channel wind, asking for low ball-flight and a bit of nerve. One soft morning, one wild one, ten minutes apart.
A short drive south, Hardelot offers another satisfying double. Hardelot Les Pins is the celebrated one — an elegant Tom Simpson design threading through tall pines, generous to look at and craftier than it first appears. Hardelot Les Dunes is its more open, breezier sibling, closer to the sea in spirit. And at Belle Dune in Fort Mahon, you get something different again: a course carved straight through coastal dunes and forest, wild and natural, a fine change of texture for the second half of a trip.
Five courses, three of them within easy reach of a single base, all walkable by the golfer in your party while the other half of the trip carries on uninterrupted. We’ll sequence the rounds so nobody’s day feels like a compromise.
Everything else — for the one who'd rather not carry a bag
This is where Northern France earns its reputation as a couples’ destination. Le Touquet — Paris-Plage — was built as a fashionable seaside retreat, and it still feels like one: a long sweep of beach, art-deco streets, boutiques, patisseries and the kind of unhurried day where the only decision is which café terrace. While one of you is on La Mer, the other can quite happily disappear into a spa morning, a beach walk, or a leisurely lunch and be no less content for skipping the golf entirely.
Inland, Montreuil-sur-Mer is the romantic counterpoint — a walled hilltop town with cobbled ramparts, intimate restaurants and a strong claim to some of the best food in the region. It’s where the wine-and-long-lunch side of the trip comes alive, and it makes a beautiful evening even if you’ve spent the day apart. Pair golf days with spa days, beach days with food days, and the week balances itself.
Where our specialists would stay in Northern France
Where you'll stay — three bases, one easy decision
We anchor most couples’ trips at one of three properties, each with its own character. The Hotel Barriere Le Westminster in Le Touquet is the grand choice — a landmark address with a full spa, perfect when the non-golfing partner wants the day handsomely filled while the golfer is out on the links. The Red Fox, also in Le Touquet, is the relaxed, well-placed option: comfortable, central, and close to everything the resort offers. And the Best Western Hermitage in Montreuil-sur-Mer trades the coast for that romantic walled-town setting, ideal if food and atmosphere matter as much as fairways.
You can base in one spot for the whole stay or split between two for variety — coast then countryside. We’ll match the hotel to your balance of golf and everything-else, and handle the bookings, tee times, transfers and timings as one joined-up itinerary so the two of you simply turn up.
Booked the right way, so you can both relax
From £495 per person, your Northern France couples’ break is built to order and billed simply in pounds. Because we’re an enquiry-led specialist, there’s no rigid online package to wrestle with — you tell us how much golf, how much spa, beach or wine, and we send back a tailored itinerary you can adjust until it’s right.
It’s also properly protected. Golf Planet Holidays is ATOL Protected, and your money is held in trust with the PTS Trust Account until you’ve travelled — so the only thing you’re committing early is the dream of the trip, not the risk. If you’d like flights added from the UK they can be arranged alongside the ground arrangements, and travellers joining from the US will find the strong-dollar maths and short hop from Paris make this an unusually good-value European golf escape. Prefer company on the fairways? We also run hosted and escorted group tours from time to time, an easy way to meet other golfing couples while keeping your own evenings free.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a golf holiday for couples in Northern France cost?
Prices start from £495 per person. Because every trip is tailor-made, the final figure depends on your hotel, how many rounds the golfer plays, the time of year and any extras like spa or transfers. Tell us your dates and the balance of golf versus relaxation you’re after, and we’ll send a clear, GBP-priced itinerary to fine-tune.
Which courses can we play, and are they suitable if only one of us golfs?
You can play Le Touquet La Foret and La Mer, Hardelot Les Pins and Les Dunes, and Belle Dune at Fort Mahon — five varied courses, most within easy reach of a single base. They suit a couple perfectly: the golfer heads out for the round while the non-golfing partner enjoys the spa, beach, boutiques or a long lunch, and you reunite each evening.
Where would we stay?
We typically base couples at the Hotel Barriere Le Westminster in Le Touquet (grand, with a spa), the Red Fox in Le Touquet (relaxed and central), or the Best Western Hermitage in Montreuil-sur-Mer (a romantic walled town known for its food). You can stay in one or split your trip between the coast and the countryside — we’ll advise based on your plans.
Is our money protected, and can you arrange flights?
Yes. Golf Planet Holidays is ATOL Protected, and your money is held in trust with the PTS Trust Account until you’ve travelled, so your booking is secure. We can add UK flights alongside the ground arrangements, and we’re happy to help travellers coming from further afield, including the US, build the whole trip into one itinerary.
