About Saint Gatien Golf Club
Saint Gatien Golf Club near Deauville, Normandy, is maturing into a pleasant golf 27-hole course. Originally laid out in 1988 the three nines spread over 100 hectares, criss-crossing a valley and woodland. The course is hilly in parts and features relatively small greens and a length of up to 6800 yards and par 72. The fairways are quite generous so you can open your shoulders but the yellow nine, La Chapelle, is specifically designed to focus on short game strategy.
The very pretty clubhouse dates from the 18th century and is home to a good restaurant and friendly bar. Well located between Deauville and Honfleur, Saint Gatien is ideal for a day out with dinner in Honfleur afterwards.

Our take
Deauville's 27-hole Saint Gatien spreads across a hundred hectares of valley and woodland, hilly in places, with small greens that will expose a scrappy short game.
- Serious golfersThe full 6,800 yards with small greens is an approach-play examination, and rounds tend to come apart at the 9th and 16th. The La Chapelle nine will find out anyone whose wedge game has gone rusty.
- Higher handicapsGenerous fairways let you open the shoulders without fear, which forgives plenty. The hills are honest work though, a hundred metres and more of climbing, so a buggy earns its keep over 27 holes.
- SocietiesTwenty-seven holes gives a group fresh combinations day after day, the wide fairways keep play moving, and Deauville is on the doorstep for the evenings.
