About Makila Golf Club
Makila Golf Club is ideal holiday golf in an area packed with some very challenging golf courses. After a few rounds on the tighter courses around Biarritz, you might want to play a golf game on a course where you can take your driver out of the bag . Makila will tick this box but it’s no pushover.
There are plenty of bunkers and a few water hazards so you can’t just blast away but Makila does reward good driving. The views on some of the holes are sensational.
A good modern course and a nice contrast to the classics near the coast.

Our take
After the tight tests around Biarritz, Makila is where you finally pull the driver out again, though 100 metres of climb and the 2nd and 10th stop it being a stroll.
- Buddy tripsSlot it mid-trip as the recovery round. The fairways give everyone room to swing freely after the tighter Biarritz courses, and the views from the higher holes give the group something to talk about beyond the golf.
- Higher handicapsThe most forgiving driving course in the area, with the bunkers and a handful of water hazards providing the argument. It is hillier than holiday golf usually is, so plenty of groups will want a buggy.
- Serious golfersWide does not mean easy. The 2nd sets the tone and the 10th repeats it after the turn, and with barely a breath of wind on an average day, a poor score has nowhere to hide.
