Caldy is a superb golf course at the end of the Wirral Peninsula, along the River Dee. It is a very attractive mix of cliff-top links, parkland and heathland, with stunning views across the water to Wales and equally peaceful views over farmland. The course management strive to remain faithful to the James Braid inception of the 18 hole course back in 1930. A bit of a hidden gem it will test your accuracy rather than your strength. Successful bump and run shots can help you win the day.

Our take
Caldy changes character three times in a round, clifftop links into parkland into heathland, with Wales across the Dee the whole way.
- Serious golfersA Braid course kept faithful to his 1930 routing, it asks for accuracy rather than muscle. The breeze off the Dee is rarely still, so the bump and run under the wind is the shot that scores.
- Higher handicapsThere is no brutal length to fear and the walking is level throughout. Keep it straight and flighted low and you will get round respectably; balloon it and the estuary breeze takes over.
- Solo golfersA peaceful corner at the end of the Wirral, farmland on one side and the water on the other, the sort of quiet, well kept members' course that suits playing alone at your own pace.
