Biarritz sits on France's southwest Atlantic coast, close to the Spanish border and the foothills of the Pyrenees. For a UK golfer it works as a short hop to mild Atlantic golf with a proper seaside town attached, the kind of trip where the surf, the food and the rounds all share equal billing.

We have arranged tailored golf trips here since 1981. We plan the hotel, book the tee times, sort your transfers and pull every round together into one trip, so all you decide is when to go.

Why play golf in Biarritz

The golf around Biarritz is Atlantic golf in the French style, played on softer maritime turf with sea air and the Pyrenees never far from view. The town itself has a long golfing history that goes back to the era of British and Spanish visitors, and it remains an easy base for a few unhurried rounds rather than a forced march of 36 holes a day.

If you want a single recommendation for where to stay and play from, Hotel 202 over at Hossegor is the standout in our Biarritz lineup. It is the priciest of the three but the most characterful, and Hossegor is a serious golf and surf address in its own right.

The courses you’ll play

Our current Biarritz packages are built around the hotels rather than a fixed course list, so we tailor the rounds to where you stay and how much golf you want. We will confirm the exact courses and tee times with you when we plan the trip, matching them to your dates and ability.

The three bases we use are spread along this stretch of coast, which keeps a good spread of local Atlantic golf within an easy drive:

  • Escale Oceania Biarritz and Logis Hotel de l'Ocean, both in Biarritz itself
  • Hotel 202 up at Hossegor, a short way north along the coast

Where you’ll stay

Three hotels make up our Biarritz collection, each suiting a different budget and mood.

  • Escale Oceania Biarritz, from £255 (≈ €295) (≈ $335) (≈ CA$475) (≈ AU$475) (≈ NZ$585) (≈ CHF 265) pp for three nights. The most affordable of the three and a straightforward town base for keeping the trip cost down.
  • Logis Hotel de l'Ocean, from £285 (≈ €325) (≈ $375) (≈ CA$525) (≈ AU$535) (≈ NZ$655) (≈ CHF 295) pp for three nights. A small step up, still in Biarritz, for golfers who want to be in the centre of things.
  • Hotel 202, Hossegor, from £545 (≈ €625) (≈ $725) (≈ CA$1,015) (≈ AU$1,025) (≈ NZ$1,245) (≈ CHF 575) pp for three nights. The most expensive and the one we would pick for a trip with a bit more polish, set up the coast in Hossegor.

Best time to play golf in Biarritz

Late spring through early autumn is the reliable window for this part of the Atlantic coast, with the warmest, driest conditions usually falling across summer. The trade off is that summer is also peak holiday season here, so the town and the beaches are at their busiest.

Spring and early autumn give you milder days and quieter courses. Being Atlantic coast, the weather can turn wet and windy at any point in the shoulder months, so pack waterproofs whenever you travel.

Getting there

Most UK golfers fly. Biarritz has its own airport with seasonal and year round links from the UK, and we can book flights as an ATOL protected add-on to your trip rather than rolling them into the headline price.

Because this is southwest France, a self drive is also a genuine option if you would rather bring your own clubs and car and take the crossing, though it is a long drive from the Channel. Whichever way you arrive, we arrange your transfers and the golf so the ground side is handled.

Good to know

One honest caveat: our Biarritz packages are priced and built around the hotels, and we do not list a fixed set of courses for this region yet, so the exact rounds are confirmed with you at the planning stage rather than fixed in advance. All our prices are ground only and quoted per person, with flights kept separate as an ATOL protected add-on we can book for you. Biarritz is also a busy coastal resort in high summer, so if you want quieter golf and easier tee times, the spring and autumn shoulders are worth considering.

Frequently asked questions

Golf holidays in Biarritz — answers to the questions our golfers ask most.

How long is LeShuttle crossing time to France

The Eurotunnel LeShuttle from Folkestone to Calais takes about 35 minutes, which makes a self-drive trip genuinely easy for the Northern France golf resorts. Le Touquet, Hardelot and the courses around the Somme are roughly two to three hours on from Calais, so you can load the clubs, drive on and be on the first tee the same day, and on those breaks we can include the crossing in the price. For the south and southwest, such as Biarritz, the Riviera and Provence, most golfers fly into Nice, Marseille, Biarritz or Bordeaux and we arrange transfers on the ground.

How much does a golf holiday in France cost?

Golf holidays in France start from £235 (≈ €265) (≈ $315) (≈ CA$435) (≈ AU$445) (≈ NZ$535) (≈ CHF 245) pp with Golf Planet Holidays. That is a tailor-made ground package, and the final price depends on your hotel, the courses you play and the season.

When is the best time to play golf in France?

May, June, September and October are the best months, with comfortable temperatures and courses in peak condition. The south of France stays playable into late autumn.

Where should I play golf in France?

There are more than 700 golf courses in France. As first steps we would recommend Northern France. There are ten great courses here.  Chat with us about the various choices if you wish to venture further afield.

How many golf courses are there in France?

We feature 130 courses and 102 resorts across France including Saint Malo Golf Club and Sept Tours Golf Club. Your specialist matches the courses to your group's standard and budget.

Is it easy to get around in France?

Getting around France is straightforward. Self-driving is the most popular option — if you've come via Le Shuttle, you already have your car. Trains are excellent for city-to-city travel, particularly from Paris to Bordeaux (2 hours on the TGV). Within golf regions like the Algarve or Brittany, a hire car gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace. We include all airport or station transfers in our packages and can arrange inter-course transfers, so you're never left without options.
