3.Portugal is on the same time line as the UK. With numerous flights a day from airports all over the UK taking three hours or less, there is plenty of time to enjoy a good lunch and then head for the first tee on your day of arrival.
4. The first golf course opened in 1890 when British port producers formed Oporto Niblicks Club now known as Oporto Golf Club. Golf tourism really took off in 1966 when the magnificent Sir Henry Cotton opened Penina on the Algarve.

5.Don’t overlook Portugal as a winter destination. While the Western Algarve looks over the Atlantic Ocean, head to the Eastern Algarve around Tavira and Monte Rei for cracking winter deals and weather influenced by the Mediterranean Sea.

6.The beautiful Portuguese island of Madeira is a perfect winter destination with luxury hotels and three superb golf courses.
