Golf in Paphos or Belek? An Honest Comparison

Paphos

Two of the Mediterranean’s great golfing coastlines, two very different moods. Belek lays out its championship courses like a hand of cards — flat, pine-scented, walkable from your hotel door — while Paphos drapes its fairways across Cypriot hillsides, the sea glittering somewhere below and Aphrodite’s own coastline never far away. Choosing between them is less about which is better and more about the trip you are dreaming of.

We send discerning golfers to both, and we have no horse in the race — only a genuine wish to put you on the right coast. What follows is an honest comparison: the golf, the courses, the seasons and the atmosphere, and the kind of golfer or group each suits best. Then, as ever, we tailor every detail to you.

The golf and the courses

Belek is golf at its most concentrated. On a flat, sandy coastal plain framed by umbrella pines, the courses sit shoulder to shoulder — Regnum Carya, Gloria Golf Resort, Cornelia Diamond — so a four-ball can play a different championship layout each morning and be back at the pool by lunch. The conditioning is immaculate and the resorts, from Maxx Royal Belek Golf Resort to Titanic Deluxe Golf Resort and Sueno Hotel Deluxe, are built unapologetically around the game.

Paphos trades that convenience for drama and variety. Aphrodite Hills Golf tumbles across two plateaux divided by a ravine; PGA National Cyprus rewards the thinking player; Minthis Golf Club sits high among pine and vine at an old monastery estate; Secret Valley and Elea Estate each carry the contours of the Cypriot landscape into every hole. No two rounds feel alike, and the views — sea, mountain, gorge — are part of the test.

Season and weather

This is where Cyprus quietly pulls ahead for the year-round golfer. Paphos plays beautifully through the winter months, when settled, mild days make November to February a dependable bolt-hole from European frost — golf in shirtsleeves while home courses sit waterlogged. Spring and autumn are glorious at both.

Belek is at its finest in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the heat softens to perfection. High summer on the Turkish Mediterranean can be fierce, better suited to early tee times and long afternoons by the pool. For a pure winter-sun golf fix, Paphos has the edge; for spring and autumn championship golf in volume, Belek is hard to beat.

Where our specialists would stay in Paphos

Atmosphere and sense of place

Belek is a purpose-built golf and resort destination, and it wears that confidently. The grand all-inclusive hotels — Gloria Verde, Regnum Carya Golf and Spa Resort, Voyage Belek Golf and Spa, Cornelia Diamond — offer everything within the gates: fine dining, spa, beach and golf, all on one tab. It is golf-centred, generous and easy, ideal when the priority is fairways and fellowship without logistics.

Paphos feels more like Cyprus itself. Beyond the golf there is a living coastline — harbour tavernas, ancient mosaics, the Tomb of the Kings — and stays such as the Annabelle Hotel, Constantinou Bros Athena Royal Beach Hotel and Aphrodite Hills Hotel by Atlantica that blend resort polish with a genuine sense of place. Here, golf is the heart of the trip but not the whole of it.

Which destination suits you

Choose Belek if you are a golf society or group of friends who want to play a different championship course every day, buggies down, with a grand all-inclusive resort to return to and nothing to organise. It is the more single-minded golf trip, and a superb one.

Choose Paphos if you are a couple or a mixed group who want memorable, varied golf set within a richer holiday — winter sun, sea views, dining out, a little history — and the flexibility to play several distinct courses without travelling far. Of course, you needn’t choose blind: tell us how you like to play and who you’re travelling with, and we’ll point you to the coast that fits — then build the trip around it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play several different courses on one trip to Paphos or Belek?

Yes, and it is one of the joys of both. In Belek, championship courses such as Regnum Carya, Gloria Golf Resort and Cornelia Diamond sit within minutes of each other, so a different layout each day is effortless. In Paphos, Aphrodite Hills Golf, PGA National Cyprus, Minthis Golf Club, Secret Valley and Elea Estate offer real variety across a compact area. We arrange tee times, transfers and the order of play to suit your group.

Is Paphos or Belek better for a winter golf trip?

Paphos. Cyprus around Paphos plays comfortably through the winter, making it a reliable choice from November to February when much of Europe is too cold for golf. Belek is at its best in spring and autumn. If you want guaranteed winter golf in shirtsleeves, we’d usually steer you to Paphos.

Are golf holidays to Cyprus and Turkey financially protected?

Yes. Golf Planet Holidays has been arranging tailor-made golf travel since 1981. We are ATOL Protected, and your money is held securely in trust with the PTS until you travel, so your trip to Paphos or Belek is safeguarded from the moment you book.

Do you tailor-make trips to both Paphos and Belek?

Absolutely. Every trip is built around you — your handicap range, the courses you most want to play, your preferred hotels and how you like to balance golf with everything else. Tailor-made trips start from £486pp in Paphos and £549pp in Belek, the beginning of a fully bespoke arrangement rather than a fixed package.
