Golf Holidays for Couples in South Africa
South Africa By The Golf Planet Holidays Team · Golf-travel specialists since 1981 · Published 1 June 2026 At a glance Is this a good golf holiday for a couple where only one of us plays? Yes — it’s arguably the ideal one. While the golfer plays Royal Cape, Metropolitan or Steenberg, the partner has […]
Picture it: one of you walking the 18th at Royal Cape with Table Mountain filling the sky, the other already settled into a vineyard lunch in Stellenbosch or a slow afternoon on Camps Bay beach. By six o’clock you’re back together over Cape wine, comparing notes on a day you each loved for completely different reasons. That is the quiet genius of a golf holiday for couples in South Africa — it gives the golfer some of the most beautiful golf on earth, and gives the other half a holiday that has nothing to do with golf at all.
We’ve been arranging tailor-made golf travel from the UK since 1981, and South Africa is the trip we recommend most often when one of you plays and one of you would rather not. From £290 per person, we build it around you both — never a compromise, never a someone-tagging-along itinerary. Just a romantic, effortless escape where the golf and the rest of life finally sit side by side.
Golf that earns its place on the bucket list
Cape Town is one of the great golf cities, and you don’t have to travel far between rounds to feel it. Royal Cape Golf Club is the oldest in South Africa and a genuine championship test, framed by the mountains and immaculate from tee to green. King David Mowbray and Metropolitan Golf Club sit minutes from the city centre, so a morning round needn’t cost you an afternoon together. Milnerton is a true links — sea on one side, the lagoon on the other, the wind deciding your score — while Steenberg, Tokai wraps the golf inside a working wine estate, all vines and craggy peaks.
We’ll match the courses to the kind of golfer you are. A handicap player chasing the headline tests, or someone who simply wants a relaxed, scenic round before lunch — either way, every tee time, green fee and transfer is arranged in advance so the golfer just turns up and plays.
For the partner: spa, beach, wine — and Cape Town itself
This is where South Africa quietly out-charms every other golf destination for couples. While the golf is on, the rest of the day is yours. From The Bay Hotel you step straight onto Camps Bay’s white sand, with spa treatments, sundowner bars and the cable car up Table Mountain all close by. Spier Hotel puts you in the heart of the Stellenbosch winelands — cellar tastings, farm-to-table lunches and gardens made for doing nothing in. And The Farmhouse Hotel in Langebaan looks out over the lagoon, an easy, romantic base for long lunches and slow mornings.
Tell us what the non-golfing half loves — a tasting tour, a spa afternoon, a coastal drive, a day on the beach — and we’ll thread it through the itinerary so the two of you are apart only for the round, and together for everything that matters.
Where our specialists would stay in South Africa
Three bases, one unhurried trip
You can settle into one hotel and play out from it, or split your stay to see more of the Cape. Many couples pair a few nights at The Bay Hotel in Camps Bay — beach, city, golf at Royal Cape and Milnerton all within reach — with time at Spier among the Stellenbosch vineyards and the golf at Steenberg. Add The Farmhouse at Langebaan if you want the quieter, lagoon-side end of the trip. Because it’s tailor-made, the pace is yours: this is a holiday, not a tour schedule.
Prefer company on the fairways? We also run hosted and escorted group golf tours to South Africa from time to time — a sociable option if the golfer would enjoy a few rounds with like-minded players while their partner does their own thing. Just ask and we’ll tell you what’s coming up.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a golf holiday for couples in South Africa cost?
Tailor-made packages start from £290 per person, based on your choice of hotel — The Bay Hotel in Camps Bay, Spier in Stellenbosch or The Farmhouse in Langebaan — with green fees, tee times and transfers built in. Because every trip is quoted to your dates, room and chosen courses, the final price is confirmed when you enquire. Everything is billed in GBP.
Are flights included, and is the holiday financially protected?
We arrange the holiday ground-up — hotels, golf and transfers — with UK flights available as an optional add-on. When flights are included your booking is ATOL protected, and either way your money is held securely in trust with PTS until you’ve travelled, so you’re covered before you ever set foot on the plane.
Will the non-golfer actually enjoy it?
That’s exactly who South Africa suits. With Camps Bay’s beaches, the Stellenbosch winelands, spas and Cape Town on the doorstep, the partner has a full holiday of their own while the golfer plays Royal Cape, Steenberg or Metropolitan. We design each day so you’re apart for the round and together for the rest.
Which courses can we play near Cape Town?
Our Cape Town golf includes Royal Cape Golf Club, Metropolitan Golf Club, King David Mowbray, Milnerton’s seaside links and Steenberg in Tokai — all within easy reach of the city and the winelands, so rounds rarely eat into your time together. We’ll match the line-up to the golfer’s handicap and the kind of trip you both want.
