Golf Holidays for Couples in Lisbon Coast
Lisbon Coast By The Golf Planet Holidays Team · Golf-travel specialists since 1981 · Published 1 June 2026 At a glance Is the Lisbon Coast good for a couple where only one of us plays golf? Yes, and arguably it’s one of the best places in Europe for exactly that. The golfer can play Oitavos […]
There’s a particular kind of holiday where one of you walks off the 18th green still talking about the approach you flushed into the wind, and the other has spent the morning in a spa or with a glass of something cold by the sea — and you meet for lunch with everything to tell each other. That’s what the Lisbon Coast does so effortlessly. Tucked between the Atlantic surf at Cascais, the wooded hills of Sintra and the wide beaches of Estoril, it’s a stretch of Portugal that was almost made for a couple where one or both of you play.
At Golf Planet Holidays we’ve been arranging tailor-made golf trips for British couples since 1981, and the Lisbon Coast is one we return to again and again precisely because it’s so easy on a relationship. Championship links on the doorstep for the golfer; spa, beach, wine and old-town wandering for the partner; and the two never more than a short drive apart. From £400 per person, we’ll shape the whole thing around the two of you.
Golf that earns the bragging rights at dinner
The Lisbon Coast holds some of the finest golf in mainland Europe, and it’s all within an easy reach of one another — no long, holiday-eating transfers. Oitavos Dunes is the headline act: a Links Trust-recognised, environmentally celebrated course tumbling through umbrella pines and dunes toward the Atlantic, regularly ranked among the world’s best. A few minutes away, Quinta da Marinha in Cascais offers a more forgiving, resort-friendly Robert Trent Jones layout with ocean glimpses on nearly every hole — ideal if your handicaps differ or you simply want golf that’s a pleasure rather than a battle.
For variety we’ll send you up into the hills to Penha Longa in Sintra, a dramatic, mountain-backed course set around a historic estate, and to the elegant, mature fairways of Estoril Golf Club, a classic Mackenzie Ross design woven through pine and eucalyptus. A little further out, Belas Clube de Campo rounds things off with a modern, sweeping valley layout. Play two of these or all five — we tailor the rounds to your pace, not a fixed package.
For the partner: spa, beach, wine and effortless days
This is where the Lisbon Coast really wins couples over. While one of you tees off, the other isn’t left to fend for themselves. Penha Longa has a destination spa and beautiful gardens; the seafront at Estoril and Cascais gives you sandy beaches, a palm-lined promenade and a pretty old town full of boutiques and cafes. The hills of Sintra — with its fairytale palaces and small, characterful wineries — are perfect for a slow morning of tasting and exploring, and Lisbon itself is a short, scenic drive for a day of culture and dinner out.
The point is that nobody is waiting around. We design the itinerary so golf and leisure run in parallel and reunite for lunch or dinner, and we’re just as happy booking a couples’ spa afternoon or a wine experience as we are a tee time. It’s romantic without being effortful — the trip does the work for you.
Where our specialists would stay in Lisbon Coast
Where you'll stay
Your base shapes the whole feel of the break, so we offer a small, carefully chosen set rather than an overwhelming list. Vila Gale Cascais puts you right on the lively Cascais seafront, walking distance to restaurants and beach — easy, sociable and central to the golf. Quinta da Marinha is the resort option, with its own course on site, spa, pools and quiet pine-shaded grounds; the golfer barely has to travel and the partner has the resort at their fingertips. And for couples who want space and a real sense of arrival, The Praia D’El Rey Marriott near Obidos sits above a sweeping Atlantic beach a little to the north — wonderful for a few days of beach, spa and dramatic clifftop golf as part of a twin-centre trip. We’ll match the hotel to the holiday you actually want.
Booked properly, protected properly
Everything is arranged by people, not a booking engine. You tell us how the two of you like to travel — how much golf, how much leisure, the standard of hotel, your dates — and we build a tailor-made itinerary and quote it in GBP, so there are no exchange-rate surprises. Golf, transfers and hotels come as one organised trip, with flights available as an ATOL-protected add-on if you’d like us to handle those too.
And because peace of mind matters when you’re parting with money for a holiday months ahead, your payment is held securely in trust with PTS until you’ve travelled — so the money simply isn’t ours to spend until you’re safely back home. If you’re a group of couples or golfing friends travelling together, ask us about our hosted and escorted tours, where one of our team takes care of the logistics on the ground so you can all simply enjoy it. Many of our customers travel from the US too; we’re happy to advise on the best UK or transatlantic flight routings to make the journey as smooth as the golf.

Frequently asked questions
Can you arrange a holiday where only one of us plays golf?
Absolutely — it’s one of the most common trips we plan. We’ll book tee times at courses like Oitavos Dunes, Quinta da Marinha or Penha Longa for the golfer, and arrange spa, beach days, wine tasting or sightseeing for the partner, all timed so you spend the rest of the day together. The trip is built around both of you equally.
How far apart are the courses and hotels?
Reassuringly close. Quinta da Marinha, Oitavos Dunes, Estoril and Penha Longa are all within a short drive of the Cascais and Estoril hotels, so there are no long transfers eating into your day. Praia D’El Rey near Obidos sits a little to the north and works beautifully as part of a twin-centre break. We arrange all transfers as part of the package.
What's included in the from-£400-per-person price?
That ground price covers your hotel, golf and transfers as a tailor-made package. The exact cost depends on your chosen hotel, the number and choice of rounds, and your travel dates. Flights are an optional ATOL-protected add-on, and we quote everything in GBP so there are no hidden currency costs.
Is my money safe when I book?
Yes. Golf Planet Holidays has arranged golf travel since 1981, your trip is ATOL Protected where flights are included, and your payment is held in trust with PTS until you have travelled — so your money is fully safeguarded right up until you’re home.
